Pond Minnows

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Pond Minnows

Post by Markus »

I took my daughters out to scoop some tadpoles out of the pond. Every scoop I was bringing up minnows! :? I was a bit surprised by the different species.

Lots of sticklebacks. Lots of bass fry. But there was one minnow i didn't recognize. It had a blunt round head. Never saw it before and can't figure out what it is. I tried taking a pic, but none would turn out.

:D The ponds around here have all fathead minnows and northern redbelly dace. The drainage ditches tend to hold the mudminnow /killifish critters. Fatheads are good bass bait..grow to about 3" a little small for pike.

I'm guessing that the bass fry came from a bigger bass...

If those herons speak goose, they'll steer clear. The geese fly a big C pattern around it now.
