Here's what I would do Jenna. Figure out what items you're gonna need. Then via PM, shoot that list to Toobinator, Baitcaster and Team Sports Action. Ask them to quote you on the items.
They're a big help and won't be shy about getting ya geared up to enjoy a little fishing.

Hey Jenna what Markus said. I've shopped in all of those stores and they are great. They will sell you what you need in your price range.

Pick a budget and try and fill it. Get the best gear that you can afford... it's cheaper in the long run, than feeling like you half to upgrade a few times. Rapala has put out some good rod/reel 6-7 foot medium spinning action combos. Pflueger has a great spinning reel in the 60$ range that you'd be hard pressed to improve upon. Try and get a graphite rod, it will be more versatile than an entry level fibreglass one.
As for baits, it would be best to head into one of the local shops (again with a budget) and get them to fill it with what 'they' would buy for this area. Can't go wrong with spinnerbaits, plastic jigs (tubes too) and some rapalas. Some things that are weedless help too.
Good luck.

If you're out in the West End, LeBaron's in Bells Corner's is always good. I make sure to stop in whenever I'm out that way.

Hi Jenna Bass
Some of the species of fish include Bass (Smallmouth and Largemouth), Pickeral(Walleye), Trout ( In some lakes), Northern Pike, Muskies ( Look similar to Pike)
Most of the species above can be caught in the Ottawa River now depending on if your fishing from a boat or from the shore spots will vary.
As for gear and license you can pick up a license at a Local Canadian Tire store and there are two kinds the conservation and the regular one I would recommend the regular one but ask the person at the store to tell you the difference between the two and you can decide which oneis best for you.
I would also recommend picking up a Rules and Regulations for fishing in Ontario and a Guide to eating fish in Ontario both will give you important info on what you can fish for , when you can fish for that species and what you can and can't eat - trust me you do not want to be caught fishing for something at of season. The ministry takes it serious better to be safe than sorry.
LeBaron is a great spot for supplies as is Manotick there is a store called Manotick Bait Shop with some different stuff not found in LeBaron.
Hope this helps on getting you started on this great sport anything else let me know
Cheers
