Pike pics from Huntsville

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Pike pics from Huntsville

Post by Yankee »

Did a little pike and walleye fishing last weekend with some friends. Had a great time and the fish were on the bite. You may have seen these over at AO but I'm guilty of not posting here as much as I lurk :D

Yankee, where were you fishing? I'm going to be spending the first week of August in Huntsville.

Thanks everyone! I really enjoy myself in your great outdoors and appreciate the wonderful hospitality everywhere I go while I'm there.

Thanks Steve-Hamilton, actually Blaine is the only local we fished with and I taught him most of his fishing skills over the past 15 years. I find that early in the year you don't have to go very far north for decent pike.
But your right, I also find that you can get very good and valuable info from locals. Info you can't get anywhere else. Five hours north sounds like may favorite place "Matachewan". :)

Mike the 'Tender, you'll be hard pressed to catch pike like those in August around Huntsville. I'm sure some more experienced anglers than I could but I couldn't. There's some great smallmouth action around there in August. Fairy Lake, Vernon and Penn lake are always good for SM (when in season) as well as pike.

Moosebunk, sorry but I'll be up this weekend for some Musky fishing :) I promise not to take any of those :) Picture taking only.

Plenty of pike about for everyone. Enjoy.

Careful one thing with the muskies though if you're putting 'em all back. No vertical holds on the fish, you post those here and the muskie guys will eat you like a live sucker under a float.

Thanks Moosebunk, I appreciate the advise but I'm already very very very aware of that :). Besides I don't hold muskies that way and I don't eat them.

Pike on the other hand I like to eat. Out of the many I caught that weekend, those ones in the pics are the only ones I kept. The rest were release carefully. I don't hold pike that way if I'm going to release them.

In fact I'm having a nice fried pike this evening :) .
