Current Fishing Conditions

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Current Fishing Conditions

Post by lobb »

Very generalized, but what have the conditions been like lately, are fish on the bite (pike/pickeral). I'm not sure what this heat has done for the fishing conditions. I'm going out tomorrow but will be fishing late morning/ mid day, not exactly ideal timing. I will likely be on the Rideau either near Kars or Manotick. Any advise?

The Ottawa has been hot for the last two weeks until the cold front on Monday night. Slow yesterday, just a few small pike.

Everytime I go on the Rideau there is less surface skum but the weeds are not as thick as I thought they would be at this time of year but I am sure they will be rising soon and quickly, just in time for surface bass fishing.

Conditions on the Ottawa

Post by Seaweed »

I just got in from a great afternoon on the Ottawa. The pike were on fire... but you had to find the weeds to get them. One small OOS Bass also tagged and got nailed on my spinnerbait. Quick return to the water and ....

Got to test the new raingear again but it was a brief shower. Overall the water level is slightly up from the usual and it was back to 66 degrees today on the river and above seventy in the back bays.

No shots today because I had a rookie onboard and I had my hands full trying to keep both of us amused. He was learning patience today... and I was showing him how to catch pike.

I thought All this heat was a good thing, more heat means more sun, and more sun means more weeds, which I like... All that tall cabbage! thats where all the large pike and eyes come to feast in the morn and later afternoon. Just my thoughts... once that cold front came in, they have been wild!
