Got out for speckles on Sunday with Kodiak.

Of course being new to trout fishing and getting advice from Bassstalker and Jale helps... Big thanks to them for helping out.

I take Jale's advice to hit lake X and try to find this place

We leave at 4:00 am hit the dirt road by 6:15 or so and realize I'm almost out of gas up the mountain we go as we have a spare Gallon for the 4 wheeler. After searching for nearly an hour for this lake we finally find it with the help of the mighty 4 wheeler Thank god cause my Jeep is good and all but not that small for those trails.

Finally on the water by 8:30... Within 10 min Kodiak gets a hit brings it in 5 feet and gone

Turn around do the same pass and 15 min later I finally get a trout for 2005. A nice 12 inch brookie

Of course we think the action is going to be non stop but no that was it for the remainder of our stint. Mind you we had to leave the lake at 11:00 so didn't leave for much time.

After that went searching for some new trout waters and if anyone has the patience... Well if you are willing to ride a 4 wheeler up a mountain for 45 min we found a beautiful spot... Should be testing out the waters on Sunday.

Okay, so when Carl said "On pars a l'aventure" I didn't know he meant an adventure in seeing how long his truck could last with the gas light on. Everytime we'd stop, and turn on the truck it would beep... it was KILLING ME!! The thought of losing 2 hours waiting for the gas station to open, so that I could drive the 4 wheeler to town, to get gas for the truck, was eating away at me. Anyways we managed to survive that, So if anyone here EVER goes on an early morning trip with Carl, make sure to remind him that cars run on gas.

About the "missed" fish, All I can say, is I was fricking starving, and losing a tastey apple was not an option... Fish, I can get those anywhere, but breakfast is hard to come by on a lake. It was 9am, Been up since 3:30am, and still no food, so for a fat kid that's pretty damn close to official starvation... I looked it up, and 4 minutes longer, and it would have been for real.

Please note that in the picture above Carl is in boxers, and he blames it on me for making him carry the light end of the boat. If he cares to post his other picture, you'll see that he spent the entire day romancing me with his bright white legs... I was blinded, and couldn't find the handle on my reel to bring in that trout, it's all his fault!

Thanks Dave (for NOTHING!) and Jale for something... lol... Tell you what Dave, you can take me Bass fishing, maybe then we'll catch something, cuz trout is obviously not in the cards for me...

Nice fish Carlco, but I think you have a Splake there, I don't see the black separating the orange and white on the fins!
I would need to see the tail to be 100% sure!

Maybe...but you'll have to see the tail to know for sure. The speckles we caught at Opimika this winter were really pale like that too - you had to look REALLY close to see their markings (or throw them in a pan - then the colours came out )

Saskie, it's really hard to tell sometimes, I know a natural Speckle will have black on it's fins. Here is a natural from waters that have never been stocked:

Yup, didn't mean to take away the fact that Carlco caught a nice trout, regardless of the name we put on it! Well done Carlco!

TS, I would expect you to take me to a gold mine like that , cuz I probally would'nt take anyone either.

I'm just glad to know there are lots of places like that out there. I'll find one like that one day....
