How To Catch Gar

The only reason why I ask is becuase I had a big Gar follow in my Xrap, well actually I saw him cruise by while I was fishing offshore, then pitched my xrap his way and twitched out in front of him he kind of looked at it then wondered off. Then I casted in the directio nof where he was swimming then again this time he came darting at it hitting it with his snout. Did that like 3-4 times continously. Anybody ever catch one on a stick bait before or crank?
I was told by a friend of mine Richard Webber to use wool flies so it gets caught in their teeth..

Keep at them. Its hard to get a hook into them. RJ likes the cranks.

Ya but I was just looking for the most common technique used by most anglers, see thing is I dont target them or I dont have the transportation to get to gar unless I bus.. So I never target them however its a fish Id like to add to my picture collection sooner then later!

I asked the same question in another topic.
The answer was small trebles, like a #0 or #1 mepps/blue fox

There is a lure out there i saw along time ago it looks like a regular crank with nylon string hanging off the back instead of hooks. the nylon gets tangled around the teeth.
