Might be hitting lake Stoco in Tweed in August and was wondering if anyone has ever fished this lake or knows of what could be targeted in this lake?

Dude, I know that there is Musky, Walleye, Bass and Pike in that lake. The Moira River flows in and out of the lake. If you use your Mr J special lure, you can't fail!

It is supposed to be a good Musky Lake but I have only heard this 2nd hand!

I'll be fishing there for the first time this weekend with an old fishing buddy of mine who lives there.
According to him,it's an incredible muskie fishery numbers -wise and there are a few lunkers to boot!

Hopefully,I'll do well as I'll be testing some of my homemade jerkbaits.My friend mostly fishes bucktails and does very well.

I just got off the phone with him...he went out for exactly 1 hour and boated a fiesty 35 incher and had 2 other bigger fish follow.Now that's one active muskie fishery in my books!

I'll let you know how the weekend goes...should be tons of fun.Actually,I haven't seen my friend in about 16 years,so it will be a muskie fishing reunion! We both grew up around Sandbanks and camped there on West Lake for years as kids.That's where our love of fishing began. All these years later,we got back in touch and I come to find out that my little buddy is all grown up with a wife and kid and is as crazy about muskies as I am!!! SA-WEEEEET!!!

Fished it once last year and had a great day for smallies. Caught 4 or 5 in the 2.5-3.2 range and a couple smaller ones. Also saw 2 skis, one about 44" and the other in the 47" range. Both were in about 4-8 ft of water near a drop. If targeting skies, try the big island on the weed line and the rocky point has a good drop off with a weedline where we picked up a walleye and I saw the 47"er. Have fun.

The coolest part of this story is that a month before he phoned me out of the blue,I had been thinking about him and tried in vain to get back in touch.I thought it was fate that we were both wanting to contact eachother at the same time after all those years had passed.

Can't believe that he's into muskie fishing too! My old best friend is suddenly my NEW best friend! How cool is that?

Just got home from an awesome weekend fishing.While no muskie ended up in the boat during the 2 days we spent on the water,we had some spectacular hits and many follows,mostly in the river.Let me tell you something...there are SOOOOO many muskies in the Moira River!

The most spectacular hit was on one of my prototype hand made, maple wood glider jerkbaits in a walleye paint scheme.Had 2 muskies try to kill it first thing this morning on the river.One was a very good size.Thing came out of heavy cover along the shore like an alligator and the sound of the water exploding around my bait was as if you'd dropped a cannonball in the river! Crazy fish are muskies!

The thing about fishing the river is that it's more like bass fishing as we were making very short casts to extremely heavy weed cover and logs along the river.Most of the fish were raised on inline bucktails and spinnerbaits.The other fish were after that jerkbait of mine.

We caught and released a few small pike (muskie food) and had a blast watching in frustration as the muskies continuosly eluded me! If I wasn't hooked on muskies before,I surely am now!
There is nothing like getting your first follow and whipping a nice figure eight at the side of the boat hoping to trigger it to go.For those who are thinking of trying for muskies,practice figure eighting after every single retrieve...those toothy buggers are notorious for coming right up to the side of the boat and stopping to see what's going on!

When those Muskie follow like that, speed up your retrieve as it gets to the boat. You can't go too fast, the faster your retrieve the less time the Muskie has to react. Its like the bait is trying to escape.

I did happen to know that particular trick (Thanks though),but sadly,most of the muskies seemed to appear out of nowhere as the water was a bit murky after the rain.By the time I saw them,I only had time to figure eight quickly before they would glide off into mid river.
My buddy accidentally spooked a couple of good ones just as I was about to go into a figure eight when he'd suddeny turn the boat quickly to reposition with the Minn Kota.

We later agreed to warn eachother before moving the boat suddenly!
One other cool thing about the river was the number of gars and suckers in it.Just teeming with suckers really,hence all the well fed muskie.

Stoco lake can be tough at times its a typical musky lake where the worse the weather the better the bite.

from the public boat launch in tweed go directly out straight there is a mid lake hump that is quite good.

Directly across from the hump on the other side is a nice long weed bed that is worth trolling careful not to get to close to shore as there are hazards there. Trolling through the prop wash is the most effective method there.

from the boat launch there is another bay directly to the left again careful on the hazards its rocky there. Toss 1 0z spinner baits or rip 1/2 oz jigs through it and I mean rip the jigs through, usually there will be some there also.

There is also a resort there called beach wood hollow good pl and will let you launch your boat from there, they usually dont charge but be nice and buy something from their store.
