I saw this pic on the NFN site and thought it was a great idea. This is a shot from the Scotty Tournament held last weekend on Lake Ontario. THis gentlemen was collecting all the unwanted tournament fish for the bears at the zoo.

Might be an option some of the many bass tournamet organizers should consider too.

the good man up highway 6...

he has a great thing going...

i have been using his facility to discard salmon that died on the hook...

i dont eat fish from lake ontario, so they bears got'em. he usually let me watch the bears eat, and once let me feed them...

really close if you live in the Hamilton area, or are going up highway 6.

Hmmmm...

It would be awful hard to feed a bear from the dead fish from a well-run bass tournament.

Maybe a housecat or two, if they weren't too hungry.

I think its a joke....but if it isn't I agree it's a huge waste.

However: I might be wrong but Pacific Salmon are put in the lakes to be caught and kept. They do not reproduce at least in L. Ontario and are basically a put, grow and take fishery. NY stocks them by the millions for that purpose. They are not now, nor ever be a self sustaining fishery.......and to me that is a waste.

That's disgusting!!!--there should be no such thing as an unwanted salmon. Release it or eat it or give it to friend to eat. How do you think people would respond if that were a truck load of bass or muskies going to waste----I wouldn't have posted a pic like that just for your egos--it's crap like that , that give fisherman a bad name ---it is illegal to let game fish SPOIL and the guy driving the truck should be CHARGED with way over his limit --because they are now in his possession!!--these fish are being served in Asian restaurants. After all the talk about OOS fish and not taking pics of them , and how to handle muskies and relaease them ---sorry --this just blew me away

Those Salmon only die a few monthe later and stink up the whole Credit Valley anyhow. I'm glad the bears get use out of them.

Now if they were Bows or Atlantics, I would be upset big time!

I would think a homeless shelter or food for the hungry program may be a better option. Its a big waste in my opinion, sad to see.

Northwood is a top notch facility...They currently have six grizzly bears and one black bear and I am sure they would be very happy to accept your donation as well...sometimes fish can't be revived, as they exert more energy than any other freshwater fish i've encountered....

rising from the depths, and their lactic acid buildup...they are goners...and sometimes its just not feasable to eat...

Tony, Northwoods headkeeper i'm sure would gladly answer any q'ns you have....

but i'm almost leary leaving his email....last thing he needs is a battery of emails freaking on him for this and that...

He's a really good guy.

after reading the NFN thread, it seems this individual was from the Toronto Zoo...so it seems there are more than one place taking the Salmon...

My Brenda loves salmon soooo much she'd probably gobble up those fish and that truck in about a week.
