Fishing Line???????

What is everyone using for fishing line??? I am looking for monofiliment for spinning gear. I was using samuri green from diawa but it was discontinued. I then switched to excalibur and loved it for the last 2 years but this year it sucks. Thought it was my rod or reel fraying line but it isn't. Get snagged and before I even put half the pressure a decent fish would put on it it is breaking. Broke off a big smallie yesterday that would have won us big fish and placed us in the money ( we were 6th and they paid to 5).

I never use mono...only Power Pro...sometimes I do have a Floro Leader but always Power Pro..on spinning gear 30lb.

J - try the P-Line series - I've been using the fluoroclear (8-10 lb) for the past two seasons and the CXX (up to 17 lb) as well. You can pick it up at Deep River Outfitters or at Al's in Pembroke. It seems to have great breaking strength.

All the premium lines are good out there now - sounds like maybe your roller on your reel might be nicked and you are thinking it is your line. Check out your rods and reels closely top to bottom - you may not even notice a nick until you check.

Are you coming to our tourny saturday at Westmeath/La Pas? Should be big bags with the this hot weather all week.

Thx pepe. I checked all my guides and the reel is brand new but I will check the bearing. I tried the P-Line and found it twists alot when using tubes and senkos. I was going to fish your tournament but found out valley is having theres the weekend after at lapasse so I think I will wait for that one. I know I won't be able to do very well on the smallies and don't like the drive around the island to lapasse. But I may be at the weigh in to see the weights and maybe find out what they are hitting.....lol.

This is my first year using excalibur, there's a picture of a 30 inch muskie I caught on it so you either have a bad batch or something else is going on because I fished with excalibur again this weekend and really like the line a lot.

I used to use Berkleys Triline and have really come to hate that line the last two years, not like it used to be and I don't think I will ever go back to it again.

I've used Berkley FireLine for the past three years. Handles absolutely everything I've thrown at it. Just love it.

I've been using Fireline on my spinning reel that gets used the most for many years as well. No trouble here either. My guides and reel don't show any signs of wear.

After the line gets to the point it needs changing, I put it on the spare spool and flip the line...Good to go again..

4 out of 6 guys here think mono must be Power Pro and such

Like I answered on the other board jb, which seemed to get echoed by a few others after me,

1. Good ol' Berk XT
2. Maxima Chameleon.

Like the others though, for braids, Stren and PP are top choice.

I tried MANY lines and have stuck with Berkley Sensation for over 3 years now and had a couple other avids change as well.

On my baitcaster I have Iron Silk that I usually troll with or sometimes cast for pike. Very durable. They say it's not a mono but a copolymer. I think it means many differant monos in one. 80)

I recommend them both. I'm a mono fan.

Here are some interesting results from a line stretch test:

For a 50ft length of 8lb line power pro will stretch about 12" before a break compared to 7ft for p-line. That just highlights one of the major differences between mono and braid.

Personally i use braid for muskies and for any time i'm in heavy cover. Otherwise i still use mono on most of my rods. Right now i prefer berkly big game but there are many quality lines out there and sometimes it's not the line that is at fault but how it's being used. A poorly tied knot will weaken line considerably and a baitcaster not set right will cause endless birdsnests.

John: Thats a great link, but I wonder why they don't specify how much weight they had to use to make each line snap. Isn't that one of the most important things?

Hey John, great link, but your the P-Line listed is copolymer/mon and Power Pro is a braid so there will be less strech in it.
