Deer Creek C.A. July 16th - Sleded Knows How To Fish!

Today was not my day... but it was Sleded's!

First off, we met up with Red Devil around 6:30 AM and got our stuff ready to go for the BBQ/fish fiesta at Deer Creek. We forgot propane though, so had to take a detour to Red Devil's trailer to get a couple of tanks for the BBQ we were awaiting so dearly.

Got there, and soon after came Greenbastard and a couple of others (one was Terry, dont remember the other). Things were looking up!

We hit the water, and could not get a bite for the longest time even though we saw HUGE bass. Finally, I figured out a crankbait pattern and had a couple of bass in the boat. Small ones, but they were bass none the less. Then Sleded scored with the first nice bass of the day.. I'll let you guess the weight.

We kept on fishing all day, non-stop for bass.. and never got too much. It was just SLOW! Got lots of small ones (less than 12 inches) in fact I think I caught more than Sleded, but those little guys don't count. Anyways finally caught a fair bass on an X Rap, about a pound. Not big by any means but hey it was a bigger fish than any I had caught today. So we took a pic.

Then it was BBQ Time! We went to the launch to find no ANYBODY there! And Red Devil had the camp stove so we just had to wait around for him. Fished a bit in anticipation, finally a half hour later he dragged his @ss over to the launch and we got the BBQ started. Sleded made up the hot dogs and beans, and we were set. Thanks to Red Devil for bringing the beans too!!

Sleded had a nice rainbow right as we were trolling from the launch, but it got off at the boat. WOW What a challenge, just dragging a spinner behind the boat for about 2 minutes and it smacked it, then fought like a stick.

We went back where we saw some big ones this morning, and Sleded flipped a plastic worm. Well, it paid off. Sleded got the biggest bass he's ever caught. I'll let you guess the weight, but what a brute of a bass! And a better fight than I've ever seen from a fish of similar size. Must have been the deep water, and the fact that it was a bass!! Kudos to Sleded, that was a beautiful fish and you fought it like a pro.

Apparently Red Devil had a few big ones on throughout the day, but had problems with line snapping. So he basically did as well as me. But hey, it was not a bad day's fishing. Just seeing a bass that big get caught was enough to get me excited! Oh and having a few tugs on my line was nothing to complain about either!

Thanks to the guys who showed up and thanks Red Devil for actually STAYING. It was an awesome day especially since I've been sitting inside or working for over a week.

Line breaking

Red Devil,

just wondering if you wet your line with spit or water before you tighten your knots? If you don't, your line is subject to "burning" and snapping quite easily.

Nice fish boys.

I did wet my line but the problem was I was using the clinch knot and didn't wrap it nearly enough times. And I had just re-tied from a snag and was in to much of a hurry cause I was drifting fast in my canoe so I must have only wrapped about 3 times or soemthing. Also, I was using floro which is my first time and spinning gear. So without paying attention to the drag or anyother things I normally don't have to on baitcasting gear, I lost her. I hate spinning gear lol but it was the only way I was gonna be skipping senkos under over hangs and into the brush.

Oh well, the night before I had a huge slop bass... I mean thick thick slop and it produced my biggest bass this year. Released w/o pic thou but she was a tank. 45 min. fight on stout gear... weighed at least 5 pushin 6 easily... pulled her in with 25 lbs of slop also. Shore fishing... gotta love it. And yes, she did survive, didn't need to exert to much energy, the slop did the work for her.
