Back from Carping in Kingston

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Back from Carping in Kingston

Post by golfisher »

My one day trip to Kingston ended up as a two-day trip to Kingston & Ottawa with my wife and friends. Fishing wasn't that good, but it was great to make an impromtu trip back to Ottawa with a bunch of great friends. Here is a short report:

1) Kingston Mill: scorching Sun + no shade = move on to another place.

2) Fort Henry: steep bank + littel casting room = move on again.

3) Behind Queen's residence: two carps on, one landed, the other lost to zebra mussel. Too bad it wasn't me fishing; I was busy at the Queen's library.

4) A couple of spots on Highway 2 between Gananoque & Prescott: no bite.

5) Hog's Back in Ottawa: no bite.

6) Back in Kingston, behind Queen's residence: one fish on, lost again to zebra mussel. This time I was fishing, but unfortunately, it wasn't my at the end of the line where the carp was pulling.

I got skunked, without even a line bump for two days, but it was great to be back in Ottawa and stroll through the city where I had first met my wife. We were both quite amazed at some of the changes that we saw, particularly with all the housing development. We were also reminded just what a beautiful city Ottawa really is; my wife now wants us to move back, and I am almost tempted, but the winter is just too brutal for me. Maybe global warming will do the trick.

Cheers,

golfisher,

sorry no carp for you, but A for effort! It still sounds like you had a nice visit.

Where do you hail from these days, anyway?

W.

PS: how do you lose a carp to a zebra mussel? (how do you know?)
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

wolfe,

I'm from Toronto. As for zebra mussels, we were using 30 lb PowerPro for our line, and combined with the presence of zebra mussels in the area, we figured they were responsible for cutting the line, particular as the drag was on. It's known to happen quite often in zebra mussel-infested waters.
