Line help???

Hi Everyone,
I just got back from my yearly fishing trip to Algonquin park for monster Bass. :D :D Went in for 4 days and my wife and I caught over 40 nice bass, Largest was a 5.6 large mouth. I have had horrible luck using Trilene last year. I wrote the company and they sent me a free spool of 10 lb test easy cast. Well thursday I get up early and respool my line with this crap, I took off the 8 lb stren that was on it. big mistake. Finally we are in the canoe and get to my spot. 4th cast big hit set the hook, snap, tie back up 10 minutes later good hit set hook, snap. What the hell? Now I'm getting mad :evil: :evil: I lost at least 18 fish over the 4 days we were there and my wife outfished me 4 to 1 which was fine but I was very upset with Trilene. I'm not going to contact them about the crap they are currently making but I won't buy any more line from this company again. I was fishing stren this year with great luck. I am thinking of going back to stren but welcome any suggestions?? What line do you use??????

were you breaking at the knot or in the line some where?

Crash,

Before you blame your line I would suggest you use a Q-tip and check all of your guides for possible nicks/burs. Whether you're using mono, braided or fluro, a nick/bur will do a number on your line in no time. If you're using a spinning reel, you should also check the roller bearing as well as the leading edge of the spool.

I had the same prob 2 years ago.
sent about 8 spools(6-18lb test)back to the company in Manitoba
They replaced the spools for me,same prob,Line snapping at different areas,I knew it wasn't my knots
It seems they haven't corrected this
I switched to the Rapala lines and really like them for the steel and salmon I fish
anything else I'm using Stren
Just my preferences

This is for a spinning reel. The line was breaking mostly before the knot, I noticed the line was inconsistant as I would find a 15 foot section that was strong and then a 15 foot section that was really weak. Although the reel is not new it is in good shape is is well taken care of.

this is what i would do.

spool up with 30lbs Spectra FINS prt braid, with an 8 lbs diameter...

i'd then run an 18" lead of 25lbs Flouro Lead...

this might sound heavy, BUT, your only running 8lbs diameter, and the flouro is clear in the water...

it was three years ago, in september, in a back portage lake, that i too lost a few huge monster bass....my friends were all using Power Pro, and they didn't loose a fish...

Now i'm not going back either.
