Anyone ever hurt themselves while fishing?

This past saturday I was flipping a jig into some thick vegetation. When I wasn't paying attention I had a hit and quickly set the hook while I was not ready. well I misses the fish and when that jig hit the weeds my wrist snapped down hard with a loud "POP". I thought I broke my wrist, and had to use a spinning rod the rest of the day becaues I could no longer hold my baitcaster. X-rays showed no break but a good sprain. Anyone have something similar happen to them or some kind of major injury while fishing?

Check out the 'How Stupid Was That' forum.
Lots of candidates for Darwin awards in our own back yard.
Glad it's not to serious J.

Well I got a huge spinnerbait hook in the back of my head a few years ago. But I don't think that's quite as bad as your sprained wrist. Better watch it with those hooksets

Glad its not broken anyway.

Had an ex girlfriend wail away a fantastically strong cast of a crankbait... It wrapped around my head a few times and hooked my scalp. Needless to say we didn't fish close to each other the rest of the day...

Oh it wasn't the way she threw crankbaits at my head that made her an ex, it was how she went pyscho and threw things around the house...
Unfortunately, breaking up with her was just the start... keyed car, slashed tires, stalking....
Mind you, she was probably pretty good with a fillet knife

Jeez, UrbanAngler...that's the stuff movies are made of. Good thing you never went muskie fishing with her.

Buddy of mines dad got stung by hornets multiple times in the scrotum butt, and "taint" region. Yeah it had something to do with fishing.
Twice I've sprained the same foot in the last 14 months, and a pike bit my thumb pretty good. Other than that, no hooks hooking me and been lucky.

Hee-hee-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!
I remember that story, M'Bunk, and I recall that as being the 1st time I was introduced to the word "taint" -- which we still laugh about today...!
(no laughing matter for the guy that experienced the stings, though

)

P.S.
dana, I suggest you wear protective pads, helmet, cup, whatever it takes to keep you safe, man!

P.P.S. - except for the occasional hook prick, and once getting too close to a tiger muskie's teeth, I've been pretty lucky so far. Hope I didn't jinx it.

Long ago, chasing a paper airplane that went into the bushes, I jumped in and got stung 30+ times by the hornets whose nest I crushed. No, I wasn't fishing this time.
Another time I remember I wound up and made a brilliant cast of a nice heavy spinnerbait. It hit my friend square in the middle of his sunburnt back.
A friend who wanted to take my fly rod for a spin, on his backcast, caught the hook in the back of my knee (you know that nice soft flesh). Of course he didn't notice so when he continued following through on his cast, OUCH, the fly went in well past the barb. Being the angler I am, I pulled it out with my trusty forceps.
Odd situation just today where I thankfully didn't hurt myself. I decided to go wet-wading in a local river. I wore my "old faithful" heavy leather hiking boots. About 1km upstream, the soles of
both shoes fell out, so I had to wade all the way back with the soles tied to the shoes using the laces, and then climbed back up the steep broken-beer-bottle-covered hill I came in from. Amazingly I'm fine but at the time I wasn't sure if I was going to break an ankle, puncture a foot, or faint from swearing so much

I really hurt my wrist while fishing and now I can only fish for a couple hours before I need to stop so my wrist can re-cooperate. I also hooked my bud in the eye brow, that sucked

Right shoulder. Did something to it a couple summers ago early in the year muskie fishing. Continued to fish but it got soooo bad i couldn't hold my fork up at the kitchen table for more than a few minutes. Kinda like a tooth-ache debilitating type of pain. Had to hang my arm down at my side to kill the ache and regain strength.
Seemed to heal itself between the end of soft water fishing and the start of hard water fishing.
