Kawartha Musky/Bassin' Report August 16th

Well we got to the cottage last night about 9 PM. I wanted to try night fishing but the 14' aluminum/15hp setup doesnt have any running lights so I decided to put it off til morning. So I was on the water by 6AM trolling one of the recommended baits by MILF Hunter down the Burnt River, headed towards Cameron Lake. The scenery looked beautiful, kinda like this:

No bites all the way to the mouth, so I stopped trolling and went right to my desired area.
Fished a submerged railbed where I have seen/caught muskies in the past. No go this morning. So I put on a bass spinnerbait for about half an hour and only got the world's greatest sportfish, rock bass. Here's a pic for you who are dieing to see it.

Well after that I put back on the musky baits as I was not ready to give up. I went back into the river and hit a small lake that used to be used for breeding muskies about 30 years ago. There is still some in there but you really gotta work for them....usually.
I learned an important lesson today too... it is very difficult to take a picture of a musky at boatside while you're alone in a boat! Everytime I raise the camera, they take off again! So basically I'm saying, there are no musky pics
Anyways, about 4 casts into fishing a weedline with a red/yellow bucktail, I hooked into a biggun (for me)!! After a long and awesome fight in 12 feet of water, diving through weeds (all on bass tackle I might add) I managed to get a 38 inch musky to boatside! Making it officially my biggest musky ever! Like I said though, everytime I raised the camera, he took off again in a blast of energy. I tried and tried for probably 15 minutes and just said f#@k it, I don't want to kill or hurt the fish. So anyways, my beautiful fish goes away unharmed and un-photo'd.
But it was certainly a high point for my year!
Well about half an hour later I had another one on, this one was smaller but after a couple good runs he managed to shake the hook. I would guess this one was mid-30's (inches).
About 3 more hours of this and only one more small follow-up later, I decided to go in for some lunch. On the way I beat the bank a little with my bucktail for the hell of it, and got a NICE hit. It bulldogged right for bottom.. and up came a 2lb largemouth!

That did it.. after some lunch I was gonna fish for bass. I couldn't stand looking at my favourite bass spots any longer!
So after lunch I put on a scum frog and just decided to lay back in the sun and have some fun. And boy DID I EVER! Got a few beautiful bass and the best part was it was all on a topwater frog (except one on a senko, Curtis style). Here's the pics & weights:

3.2lber

2.4lbs on a senko

2lbs+

3.3lbs
Also caught MANY smaller ones throughout the day.
I was a little upset that I never got the chance to fish walleye but hey a successful day of musky and bass fishing was good enough for me! I certainly am not complaining.
I used to think fishing alone was boring, but today really got me back to what fishing is really about. Not tons of fish pictures or impressing anybody which I admit I am guilty of on many fishing trips, but just going out and having fun doing what I love! I didnt even care that I never got a musky pic, I know I caught him that's all that matters to me!
Anyways, what a beautiful day.. one I won't soon forget.
