fall turnover late on the rideau!!

First time poster!!!
how yawl dooin'
Today was my 5th attempt this fall on the rideau(kars to kempville),zero fish landed, a lot of short hits but no real hunger. I got a nice 44 incher on a big spinnerbait Oct 7 at rockland launch(and I mean right at the launch, trolling back from a soaker troll).

Back to the ridau, this river has been my favorite musky hole since I was 14. I've caught ski's from 4 lb,s to 32 pounders(2004).But today at Beckett's landing, right at the old bridge I spotted a large critter splashing about in the distance. I pulled up beside her and there she was, 50"- 30 lbs minimum at death's door with a large (fuzzy) growth on her left cheek, don't know what caused it(didn't look to close).

On a lighter note : I hope the musky fishing is as good as it has last Nov.(got 6).
i'm saving the 10" suckers for the last turnover

Welcome aboard!! I was out last saturday at Constance Bay on the Ottawa and had quite a few short strikers too. Tried the trailer hook and nothing. Would anyone recommend a prok trailer or grub in that case?

Turnover on the Rideau River??? :?

In order to have a turnover I'm pretty sure you need a thermocline first.

Oh, and how's Lester, Earl? :P

earlscruggs,

welcome... :P

that's a real shame about the big muskie -- perhaps some kind of infection after being hooked? More likely viral, but it would be nice to know.

Rivers don't "turn over".....as CCB mentioned, that requires a thermocline....deeper lakes will "turnover".... Welcome aboard Earl! ;-)

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I guess the term turnover was wrong. What I meant was late (turn on)
the musky don't seem to be as aggresive for this time of year as in past years.

About that dying musky, she was twiching a little but not dead.
-batteries were dead in my camera,to bad, it was something to see!
