I try to read the board daily and was anticipating a report from their adventures in the 1000 Islands. Questions were asked and answered but nothing since. I'd like to hear about it.

I have not been online since the begining of the year. We had a very interesting trip.

We caught about 10 a day with the biggest arount 30". On Sunday we had a storm roll in and we decided to move from Camalot island up to a small island by the 40 acre sholes.

That trip will not be forgotten any time soon. We take some flat bottom river boates with us so we can fish out of the instead of the houseboat. Well with the storm we thought we would just follow the houseboat in the small boats so they would be a problem in the wind (BAD DECISION). We were tooling along behind the houseboat we we came to a channel. My brother-in-law was in the other small boat and we really did not think the waves were too bad so we decided to not follow the houseboat and take another route so we could hit some coves on various islands along the way. Well when we got out in that channel I seriously thought I was done for. I was leading my brother-in-law (in a 18'LX84"W flat bottom). Now the swells we about 3 ft which may not seem like much buy I'll tell you they may as well have been 20fter's because I was positive that we were in deep trouble.

It started when I could look back at my brother-in-laws boat behind me and have too look up at the bottom of his boat. Needless too say I was on the verge of SH&*() my pants when I got caught on the front side of a wave and started getting pushed by the wave with the front of my boat pointing down. The only thing that saved my boat from sinking was that I decided to gun the moter to take the font of my boat through the wave in front of me dumping a buch of water right in my boat. Breathing was short and ragged I can tell you. I finally was able to get on the creats of a wave and ride it until we saw a cove to duck in. We spent the next 3 1/2 hours sitting in this cove thanking all the fishing gods we mde it

I learned a very good lesson. Either move before the storm or stay where the H^%& you are until it is gone.

We are getting for another trip and will be hitting the 1000 islands Sept29 - Oct 3rd. So all you out there don't be afraid to post some reports or tips cause I can always use the info(Maybe I 'll win our pool finally).

Ty, that is hair raising! Sounds absolutely terrifying.

Flat bottomed boats aren't the best choice, in my opinion. If you can get your paws on some "deep V" boats, you'd have a lot more stability in rough water.

With regard to fishing: what were you catching, mostly?

Hope the rest of the vacation was less along the lines of "extreme sports"!

Anyone know what the primary bait fish is for these at the 1000 islands? I would have thought Perch but I've tried live perch and any type of lure you can think of in the perch color but they do not seem interested.
