December 21st Extreme Ice Angling

Okay it wasn't so extreme.. I was actually a little pansy and only withstood the cold for 1 1/2 hours. But still..
I headed down to one of my favourite spots that shall remain nameless. Drilled a hole and found 5 inches of black ice covered in 3 inches of grey ice.. perfect! I dropped a maggot down for bluegills and proceeded to drill my next hole a little deeper.. same amount of ice. Good! I dropped a jigging spoon down this hole and let 'er rip. In about 2 minutes my jigging spoon had a nice smack! I was thinking it was a big crappie or a pike, but up came about a 1lb OOS largemouth.
*Sorry, removed the pic. Forgot about the OOS fish policy here*
A quick pic and she was thrown safely back down the hole.
About a half hour later after chumming my panfish popper started bobbing like a mofo.. "FINALLY A CRAPPIE" I thought, but up came just a little bluegill.

Oh well at least it was a fish. Re-baited with a fresh maggot and the popper started going nuts again.. this time it was a perch but I lost it at the hole.
Well after that the popper only bounced a few more times and I missed it everytime.. had another nice smack on the jigging spoon too.. no idea what it was.
It was a good time on the ice but ice fishing alone in the wind is only fun for so long. Decided to pack it in a little later on.
Hey at least I finally had some success through the ice this year!
