Does anyone use mudminnows for bait? Some say they are useless, others say they are great because of thier stamina. Any opinions folks?

I never caught anything on those things. My brothers father in law traps minnows and mudminnows are useless in his area(nipissing). They can't sell those things. Chubs and Dace are the bread and butter of his business. Shiners sell big time but they are trapped in southern ontario and sold for dirt cheap to the bait shops.

I have had good luck with mudminnows. They are warriors on the hook. Dam shinners die at the sight of a hook

I always go out of my way to get muds when I go out ice fishing. I have used dace, shiners, and muds the muds out produce all others by a long shot for walleye. I make sure to get the big muds though.

What most southern ontario anglers call muds are actually dace which are considerably more hardy than shiners. Mudminnows are typically found in bog like area and are not commonly sold by baitdealers.
