Got out on the ice with LarryS yesterday. Gorgeous day! No wind and -3c. Very comfortable! Walleye were biting but the bite was light. Larry got a couple and a perch. I managed one wally and a few dink perch. Walter was small. 12"-14". Seems to be the norm this year. If you have a car DO NOT try and drive onto the bay. Some serious slush and deep ruts. 4WD and good clearance are essential!

Just to echo Bozog. The shore line were you access the bay is in really bad shape. 4x4 with high ground clearence is a must.
If anyone cares to, they can call/write to complain to the NCC for putting all those large rockes into place so there is now only one access point to the river. We used to be able to drive out/launce a boat along 100 yrd stretch. After all the ahrd work they did, now were f*%ked!

Sorry due to my Rant regarding the NCC, I forgot the most important part:
Last night, slow bite 1 small eye and 1` small sauger.
Sun: 3 eye's 12-14", my buddies wife had most of the action and she dropped about 5 right at the hole.
I lost 10lbs pike/muskie at the hole by . Had her on for about 3 minutes, just couldn't get her up. (so to speak

)
&&& and Ling
Sat: 6 eye's, (All between 10-14") 1 good size perch, & a bowfin.

Truely a gorgeous day on the bay, just enough action to keep things interesting and managing to get my first ever walleye through the ice. Thanks again bowzog for the opportunity to get out on the ice, great company, great day, hope to do it again soon.

Thanks for the shoreline update Gord, we were thinking of Shirleys on Thursday..Funny you mentioned about the small eyes, walleye bay has been coughing up alot of fish, but not a lot of biggies...Biggest this year was a 3.6....
Thanks for the report Bowzog

Supposed to get cold for another day anyway. Hopefully -15 will harden it up somewhat!

The walleye at Shirley's are fun to catch because there can be a lot of fish but usually they are all between 12-14 inches at least 90% of the time. I have put in a lot of time over the last three seasons and the largest one was 23 inches and about 3 1/2 pounds. You would think with all those huts someone would catch a real good one. Shirley's bay has some deep drop offs maybe we need to set up on the drop and off the drop, punch lots of holes move around and put a few nights in. No doubt you are not going to get as many but you may catch some bigger ones. The problem could be that the bigger walleye could be feeding on a certain bait fish that stay deeper.It seems that there is a pile of huts sitting all together on a flat in about 10-13 feet with no structure and a mud bottom. Shirley's bay has to have some good ones but they rarley seem to show up where everyone has there huts. I wonder what Dave Gentz would do.If anyone has any comments on this it would be appriciated, Ciscoekid.

Hey Ciscoe,
(All last season)
I hooked into one last year that was near the ten pound mark. The biggest walleye I've ever seen come out of Shirley's bay. (She went back in to, maybe she's 11lbs now

)
I spoke with a couple of guy's who said they had landed fish in the 8 lbs range and I saw one guy who had one around 7lbs. (Kept)
We got tons in the 10 - 12 inch range and at least every second trip out we get 1 or two that was 2-3lbs.
Their out there, like Bozog said, move around and find them.
Good luck, CCLad
(Pretty slow again last night. 1 eye around 2 lbs and 1 Ling.)
PS WE had to pull another truck (2 wheel drive) out by the shore at the access point - again last night.
DO NOT TRY TO GO OUT UNLESS YOUR IN A 4x4 WITH HIGH GROUND CLEARANCE. You will get stuck.

Hey CCLAD, that's great to hear that you have had some good ones. I would like to see what a brute from Shirley's looks like. It's nice to know there out there,Ciscoekid.
