THE BEST MAPS???

what's the best map you can buy for the city of ottawa, well eastern ontario, that shows all the creeks, streams, rivers and lakes... where can i buy it??? i went to bushtukah, they didn't have it. i went to moutain equipment co-op, didn't have it. and then i tried chapters, and no dice. well any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get yourself the "Backroads Map Book". You can get it at any Canadian Tire check-out. It has all the rivers/lakes/creeks/roads. It even tells what species are there and if its stocked.

Backroads Map Book are from Mussio Productions and they cost around $15 each. They are well worth the investment. I'd also recommend cross-referencing with topographical maps of areas you'd like to fish. These are more expensive, but they offer detail about the terrain.

The carp show is coming up in April, they usually have some topo maps there.

If you are looking for maps for fishing then make sure you get hydrographic maps and not topographical maps. Hydro. maps give you the depths and structure of the body of water but not the surrounding land. Topo. maps give you the contours of the land, but not the water. You can buy these maps in packs (the Rideau River system and Trent water ways) or for individual bodies of water like Mississippi Lake.

While hydrographic are excellent too for the resons JP stated, the topographical are invaluable as Fishboy has stated. Having a map of
where the lake is, is a good thing, but if you don't realize you have to go over a 1500 foot mountain, hill to get there
Let's just say, the more info you have, the better!

Check out "World Of Maps" at Holland/Wellington. They usually have all of the Eastern topo maps in stock as well as various bathometric maps. MEC also had a map of the Pembroke region that highlighting the fish species in the lakes/rivers/streams.
