petrie hard water today

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

petrie hard water today

Post by muskymatt »

well I hit petrie today for the first time this year . I was quite surprised to see the ice as thin as it was (12" - 14") . looks like the ice almost claimed one shack .I drilled a couple of holes to check for depth . I'm used to ice fishing in more than 3'-4' of water , but it seemed that was the preferance as most shacks were in that depth . Can any body tell me if that's the norm?Sure was a beauty of a day though . Lost 2 minnows , so the action was fierce   ... oh well , I guess I have to hone my shallow water skills. I gather that mid day is not peak time .  I wanted to stay but my wife (the warden) had other plans :( :(
Oh well it was a good outing for me and the pup.

Cheers

I don't know about the water over there but I now I didn't see you today at the shop and work must be delayed again, but I'm sure the minnows came from me.

Sorry Bait Girl , I guess for today only I was a traitor. But next time for sure ,and yes ,thank god for slow work days

Coyote , I headed stright out from the bait shop ,past all the shackaminiums into a little clearing . Not quite into the main bay by the highway. Quite a bit of current where I was .

"almost claimed one shack",... Well went out today to check on the hut. Well not a clue how I ticked off the ice gods but I have only 6 inches of ice under my shack. Ive got one side of my shack stuck in the ice and cant do a heck of alot with the ice.

well that would be the one directly beside where I was fishing .Two guys came out with a tractor and didn't have much success . Hope that you get it out . It looks pretty labor intensive. 6" wow  thats half as thick as 20' away. Good luck!!!
