Hi guys. Renting a cottage up in Collingwood this week and hoping to do a little fishing. Either floating for steelhead or ice fishing. Any rivers open(regulation), or free of ice within 45 minutes. And not familiar with any spots other than Simcoe for ice fishing. Any info would be appreciated. Might make the " romantic" trip a little more exciting.(Feb 14th)
Thanks in advance guys. bowboy33.
Collingwood,info please.

Best bet is the Beaver River in Thornbury, very near to where you'll be. Check the regs no matter what I say, but there's also the Pretty River, the Nottawasaga about 1/2 hr away, and depending on how far you want to drive there's other spots more towards Owen Sound.
Near the Beaver there's a tackle shop called Peggy's, I'm sure they can help you find the most productive spots and tactics.
Hmm, very cool, I just did a search of 'fishing tackle' on google maps. Check this out:

Hey thanks Urban, Ive been down and fished the Beaver in the late fall before, but I just wasnt sure about the regs for that area, if it was at all like Southern Ontario.
ANyone know about ice on the creeks, or know of areas that has good holding water with flow. Again never fished it in this cold weather. Any good spots on the notty either floating or throught the ice, if they do that down there??

I havent been up there this year, but if there is ice ( or even not) you should be able to fish at Craig lieth right near Cranberry resort. Also the Grainery east of there has been decent before. The bay itself is open all year for fishing but check regs for the creeks i remeber some used to be closed. There is also a warm water discaharge near there but dont eat fish from the discharge they tasted bad. But saw a nice 2lb bow taken outa there for a little girls first fish.( we got zip that day hhmmmp)
