Round two for rainbows.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Round two for rainbows.

Post by S.M.05 »

With $5600. of repairs complete on my car due to deer smucked on way up to fish for bows a few weeks ago its time to go back and fish this lake on saturday.
Lets see where do I start off, oh yeah set alarm for 4:30am, go to bed 12:15am, wake up with migraine 3:00am, get out of bed with 2hrs 45mins sleep and migraine lost balance and almost went through bathroom door, advil extra strength and a large coffee and I,m off.
Got to the 1st lake and started to cross when I came across this guy.
Image
Looks like the wolves had a shore lunch.
So I get to the lake and start to set up my lines with the left over minnows and worms I brought, but when I open the worms there is none. Good thing brought 5 minnows f@#*. Its going to be one of those days.
At least the weather is going to be good only calling for 1mm precip.
I lose 1 around noon and then starts the intense on/off hail storms, so much for 1mm precip.
Image
Its 2:30pm I,m tired, out of bait and the hail is so big it looks like I,m getting bites when it hits the lines. Time to pack it up.
But wait was is this saved yet again by fellow fisherman who catches his own minnows(2nd time this winter). Guy gives me 2doz. minnows and I head to a spot I saved for last, thin ice should always be saved till the end of the day in case you get wet. So I sink a couple of holes put in a set line and start to jig when the set line starts getting hammered. I run over but miss the fish so I go back and start jigging when I fell the tap on my lure then all of sudden the fish grabs my lure and ITS ON! it starts peeling my line and trashing around like crazy. I pull it out of the hole its a nice big bow.
Image
As soon as I start jigging again I hook into another one but it shakes off at the hole. Then the set line starts to get hammered again but I miss it hooks just not setting. The hole I,m jigging is slowing down so I punch a new one in a couple feet over and wham I,m into another bow, this fish going nuts I can feel and hear it smashing against the ice under my feet trying to shake loose. I get it to the hole and have to scoop it out with my hand since it wont stop thrashing around. Even when I get it on the ice its trying to swim away.
Image
Look at those colors.
I cant even keep up with the fish I burn through the 2doz. minnows in just over 2 hrs. and loose my swed pimpl and half doz. fish on the set line(really need new hooks) and then I catch and release this little one.
Image
Man, this is what its all about, really owe the minnow dude.

All in all a good ending to the hard water season.

Yes fish-man-dude those are stocked rainbows and word is a guy caught a 9lb er out of there. The lake is nice and burried with fair sized streams running in and out perfect for bows.
Fatluke going to try couple low key streams for steel this weekend give me a call.
