advice please

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

advice please

Post by joeIII »

I have a fishing trip scheduled for june 4-8 on big rideau lake and would greatly appreciate any advice because i have never fished this area before. My main target is northern pike+muskie but would also like to catch walleye, bass and lake trout. Please give any advice on what to use and where to go. Thanks

Hi JoeIII,

You may get some hints of where to start by looking at the maps that we've put together.

I don't believe there are any muskie in this lake, but there are plenty of other species.

Now what to use......well, for Pike, find some weeds and throw some spinner baits or husky jerks. For Walleye, I'd be looking for some uneven bottom or edges where they would come up and go down feeding on the baitfish as they swim by. Bottom bouncing or simple jigs with minnows or grubs would be my first try at em.

Give it a whirl, fishing is like finding a needle in a haystack at times, you just gotta keep looking, that's the fun part. (quote from a good friend of mine)

I think you would be hard-pressed to find walleye and muskie in Big Rideau.

Bass will not be in season.

And don't forget to check the regulations. There are parts of the lake that are designated as a fish sanctuary.
