Lake Trout
Ok Peeps, A few of us are heading to some lake that FishHawk picked out for lakers for a day before we go to Kashwakamak Lake (prolly a Frog pond like back on the Rock) And to be honest I have no clue what to bring, or how to get them. Any help that I (we) can get would be great

What to bring... lots of beer of course!
Not being an expert on Lakers at all.... only having fished them twice...
all sorts of spoons.. some small, some large... William Wabblers, Dartees, Suttons, rapala minnow type baits trolled at different depths depending on where we marked fish.
Most of our success came when we found they were huggin the bottom ( around 30-50') where I was a few weeks ago in Quebec . We just used a couple bait hooks with a sinker a couple feet above and let some bait sit on bottom... we used smelt and cisco and both were productive.. The trick was...once you felt a fish.. to let him take it and run for a bit before setting the hook...
Good luck... let us know how it turns out..
Cheers,

Yep - lakers is new territory for me too.
I'll be bringing some downriggers to do some trolling with, but for sure I am gonna be ready to jig for some. Some jigs in the 1/2 oz to 1 oz range ought to do it with an assortment of always-present tubes and minnow-type plastics (heavy on the white).
As we all know, when I go fishing on a week-end, the wind is gonna be howling. That will be when I'll be trolling.
But if there is a time when it's relatively calm I'll be jigging for trout. Of course, if the other guys are trolling and they start to get into the fish before me I'll be like, "How deep? how fast? which bait? which colour? how fast? which bait? how deep? what colour?"
Nothing againt trolling - its holding the rod and feeling for the strike that gets me going just a little bit more.
I am keen to hear what you laker-fisherman's go-to bait is. We're goona go to Bark Lake. I think at the first of June it could be a job to find them... somewhere between 20 and million feet I imagine. Ahhh the treasure hunt.
