I was there in September of 2001. The big fish escaped us for the most part but I did manage a 4lb smallmouth off of Richardson Island on Indian Lake (connected to Clear Lake). The maps on this site are a bit dated but are not bad to give you a general idea of fish locations.
We didn't spend much time on Newboro but in retrospect wish we had. We picked up several decent largemouth at the north end of the lake in the grass. One of my favorite methods for largemouth is a zoom floating worm. The conditions were perfect for it but for some inexplicable reason I didn't pull one out.
If you are an advanced fishermen with a nice boat, my other experiences are probably not very helpful. I was taking 3 other guys on their first Canadian fishing trip and they were not very advanced fishermen. We were also fishing out of a rented pontoon boat. I had them throwing a lot of Mepps spinners and spinnerbaits as they were easy to use and could catch about anything. We did well using those methods for numbers of fish. There is definitely a good population of largemouth, smallmouth and pike in these lakes. The locals bragged out how terrific the largemouth fishing and the size of fish available. We didn't catch many big fish but that wasn't our goal.
I hope this helps some.
