Opening week on Chaffey's Lock

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Opening week on Chaffey's Lock

Post by Big Turkey »

Well spent another opening week up at the Opinicon resort for the 27th year in a row. For the first time I actually caught a ton of small mouth. From chaffey's lock out toward Indian in the first part of the channel the bass were destroying white/chartruse spinners w/ white or yellow split grub tails.

Picked up a vry nice 4.2 lb small mouth just before dawn on a texas rigged senko at the ferry elbow going from Indian to Clear lake.

The elbow after the guide island through to mosquito we were doing well with buzzbaits at night and tubes through the weedlines/lillys.

ALl and all a good year, trying to make it back up in september. I guess with the exchange rate (1.08 US to CDN) and the gas price 1.01/L there was virtually no boat traffic at all. This is the least amount of boats I have ever seen up there.

Happy fishing!

Hi Big Turkey. Sounds like a wonderful trip.

I take it you're from the states...whereabouts?

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Im heading up on the 14th-21st, were staying on Scotts Island this year. I haven't been to these lake in probabbly 12 years, but before that i went every year for 15 years. Im more into daytime pike. and night time topwater bass. Im going to try and remember my hotspots. which were hungry bay, Goat island, between the islands of Indain. and a few other. Did you find any hot spots for Pike? I usta stay at the Berks. but they were all booked when i booked my trip last year. also wheres a good place for the kids to hook up with some crappie and perch this time of year.
