I'll be up at the Madawaska tomorrow near Burntown. Has anyone ever fished this part of the river that may have a bit of advice for me? What's the main species for this body of water?

I'll be taking my wife out so I want to know what to focus on so we can't get her to pull a few into the boat.

I'm not sure about that portion of the river, but, my buddy and fished the bridge a couple of days ago and got loads of smallmouth. They were very aggressive. We where using fatraps as top water, casting them out and giving a little jerk every little while to make them go under, but alot of topwater action. We also hooked into the same musky 3 times in 5minutes. Missed him right at the boat when he jumped 31/2 feet out of the water. AGRESSIVE.

No largemouth sucess though. Even near weedy shores we were fighting off the smallmouth.

Thanks very much for the info! I'm hoping with the scorching weather tomorrow we'll get some luck in and around the lilly pads for bass.

Have you ever tried locating walleye on the river? We will be on the stretch between Arnprior and Calabogie.

Actually yea! Kind of slipped my mind but we got two small, really small walleye at the bridge aswell. Jigging around the posts of the bridge, same spot as the smallmouth. It must be over 20ft there. We nailed the two of them around 1:30 in the afternoon. The bridge is so big that there is alot of shade created. We were there from about 9:30am to about 2:00pm. Shade definately was the on/off switch for good fishing in the afternoon. But once you found the fish, they were HUNGRY. The problem was that the really big smallmouth seemed to be about 6-8ft from rocky shores. When it got hot, we didn't catch anymore big ones.

I had such a good day on that body of water, I'm trying to get back there next week.
