Best braided line?
Best braided line?
I want to try some braided line on my baitcaster and I'm wondering, from your experiences which braided line is best? Most of them promise low memory, easy to cast and won't bury into your spools etc. So which one is it?
Power Pro, Stren Super Braid, Berkley Fireline, Spiderwire, Tuf Line... ?

I use Power Pro, but honestly haven't tried any other brands.
I find the 50lb is the most managable size for baitcasters, and if you hook into an accidental monster muskie, you're prepared. I use 17lb mono backing and use a uni to uni knot to connect the two.
Some people complain about the green dye coming out of PowerPro, but the dye is just for looks. Spectra fiber, while being incredibly strong and slick doesn't dye well. Also most lasting dyes are acidic, not something you want on your fishing line.

Speaking of line I wont ever buy seaguar line again, its crap and cost me to much time and aggrevation today. I probably had to spool off about 100 yrds of it . When you cast it would all of the sudden get all crazy and tangled in to knots. And Clown Worship has been having the same issues so we are done with it.

I do all of my long-line trolling (100ft plus) with P-Line Spectrex IV 30lb and short line trolling (less than 100 ft) with P-Line CXX 10lb Copolymer. The mono gives the bait a smoother action in the water when trolling with short line lengths. The no stretch Spectrex gives a better hook set with extra long line lengths to the baits.

Last year I tried Power Pro. It was okay. I just tried Seaguar flourocarb line, wasn't impressed by it the first time out, but the reel is old and I may have spooled it wrong.
I Just went to the BPS in Vaughn on the weekend and picked up an Abu Garcia Cardinal for 40$, tried it for the first time on sunday and I love it. I spooled Spectrex P-Line on the primary spool and Seaguar on the backup. I trolled a Mepps Comet #5 with probably 70 or so yards out the back and could feel the spinner in the water on my Cherrywood. Very responsive and I landed a "good eating size" pickerel
I like the price of Spectrex as well. Power Pro comes in at around 20 dollars for 150yds. This is great maybe for larger reels, but being that I'm running a reasonably high capacity light reel, buying 100yds of spectrex for 12 dollars and chage worked much better for me.
I don't care much for baitcasters, never got onto the I guess, so All I ever spool is spinning rods.
and thats my two cents.
