7.25 lb Smallmouth - New Personal Best - Pics

Post by Slayingm »

Well, I just had the privilege to fish in the largest Bass tournament in Canadian history that took place this past weekend on Lake Simcoe and head-quartered out of Barrie's waterfront Park. 121 Pro's from the US and Canada were matched up with a different amateur each day.

Although I made some bad decisions on which part of the 750 sq mile lake to start at each day after the first 2 days I was sitting 16th overall out of 121. The top 75 Pro's qualified to fish the final day 3. On day 1 I caught just over 20lbs for 5 smallmouth followed by 17.5lbs on day #2.

Day 3 was sunny and low winds so running the big lake was much easier then the 5 ft. waves experienced on Saturday. As luck would have it I was able to catch my biggest weight of 23.65lbs this day that vaulted me from 16th to 4th place overall and winning a cheque for $15,000.00. In addition I caught my largest bass ever a monster 7.25lb smallmouth that won 'Big Fish' award and a additional $1000.00.

It was super exciting to be part of this amazing televised event and one I will NOT soon forget. Attached is a couple of pics of the monster bass.
