Hi everyone, well last week my wife and I went on the 1000 Island boat cruise on the St-Lawrence and now we’ve decided to go and try the fishing this coming weekend.

I have never fished this body of water and I did notice the water to be quite clear so I’m trying to figure out what pound test line would work best?

I usually use between 14 to 20 lbs mono, but when I noticed the water color and so on my fist thought was “I’ll need to change my fishing line to a low visible type of line like a Fluorocarbon “Seaguar” or “Vanish” to fish here!” or the fish will spook quite easily.

I typically fish for bass but obviously this is just a fun fishing day so anything goes, as they say. We will be launching near Rockport so if anyone can give me some good locations near by that would be great.

Personal opininion: stay away from the Seaguar. Both Badger Shark and I have had a ton of trouble with it. It seems fine at first then it develops bad memory and kinks up causing huge birds nests. We've both stripped it off our reels which wasn't hard as there was so little of it left.

I'd actually throw a vote in for smoke coloured Fireline 10-12lbs. test but that really depends on what you're targeting.

I fish the St. Lawrence pretty well daily from May to November. Your mono is fine for the River. I use 17 pound Trilene XT for worming, spinnerbaits, etc. The fish could care less!
