Hey folks,
Just purchased a G Loomis frontier rod its a 7 foot light action rod, I plan on using it for jigging walleye.
Just wondering what would be a good reel to match it with in the 100 to 150 range.

Junior24: The 3 reels I would be looking at would be the Quantum Catalyst 20, a Shimano Sahara 2500F or a Shimano Symetre 2500F.

Most shimano reel are very good , even the 3 bearing ones are as good as those that have five or more. Walleye fishing is not as intricate as salmon fishing, you need a good drag for larger steelehead, laketrout or 30lb salmon fish or it will eventually damage the gear.

Shimnao Symetre are one of the best, but other less expensiv emodels are godo for their money as well. once you have decided, Go buy one at ebay around oct and november time, the pricea are very good, for new models are coming out by then.

I bought couple of Symetre for CA$60 all inclusive and lower model for CA$35 all inclusive, 3 years ago, they worked just like new today except for the cosmetic. I wish I could have bought a dozen from the same seller.

been using the same DAM Quick spinning reels for goin on 40 years.....but I think ya gotta go to Germany to buy em now.......

If your stayin home, I'd say Shimano......

I would strongly recomend the Pfleuger reels. For under 80$ you get an unbeatably smooth 10 ballbearing reel system. For anyone who is a doubter, go and pick them up at lebaron's, it'll blow your mind. I bought mine having only tried the 59.99$ version at Lebaron's. I now own their spincast and baitcast reels. In my opinion, they are dollar for dollar the best reels on the market.

Congrats on the new rod I hope it serves you well I don't want this to sound bad, but I just wanted you and everyone on this board to know that frontier rods are not real loomis rods. They are not built in woodland and actually have nothing to do with G loomis in any way shape or form.... L.G. Canada just uses the loomis name to sell there frontier line of rods I'm not saying that they are bad rods, I've mainly herd good things about them Check out the Gloomis.com website and you will see that there is no listing for frontier rods.....
Sorry I know you were asking about a reel for your rod , but I just wanted you to know the truth about your rod.....

I have the 750 size of the Shimano Sahara on my ultra light setup.

I have abused this reel, tossed, droped, dunked it survided it all. I even moved it over to my medium setup for a weekend when my Quantum needed repair..... landed a nice size pike on it.

All I can say is for the money I have been and still am very happy with Sahara. I'm thinking for the price I might get another in a 2000 size.

I recently purchased a daiwa ss tournament it is only a 3 bearing but it is super reliable and the drag is amazing I would definately recommend it.

I would recommend Shimano for sure. The Symetre is right in your price range. If you could go a little higher look at the Shimano Stradic. I have 6 of these reels and they are awesome. I have had a few for years and these reels always perform great. Good luck shopping
