I took my wife out last weekend to go carp fishing because since I interduced her to fishing, she never really gets to come with me.
This woman has the best luck I've ever seen. This being her 6th time fishing , she had to pull in a 27lb carp out of the rideau. I had never fished for them before so I had done a lot of research and was praying it would work. Since then she's been bugging me about my not having cought one. So, I had been spending as much time as I could trying to get one.


I finally did it today! Pulled up a nice 19.1 pound carp today.(weighed it with a cradle, I heard it wasn't a good ideat to weigh them the normal way).

What a fish. "Five more minutes" I told my buddy as I cast out again. (he hears this A LOT) Well, i didn't even get to sit down and my line is just flying out because my bail was still open.

I've never gotten so wet trying to land a fish before. "Is he tired yet?" Splash! Splash! Splash!

Anyone who hasn't fished for carp before should give it a go. There's a ton of good information on the web, and it' s about the cheapest fishing around.

1 hook, 1 slip sinker, 1 can-o-corn, No boat. Priceless. (or about 1.67$)

you did a great job to weight the fish.(good job whit the craddel)..you are right its not good to weight them the normal way...what is the best its a weight bag,,,,,,,,,you put it in water,,,,,that way its not dry and it thos not take the natural stuff they have on....

I'm one of those carp-less people, but some day I'm sure we'll give them a whirl. Especially when I read a fun report like yours. Sounds like a kick! Too bad no pics, but now you're a seasoned carp fisherman -- so you can certainly get some more, right?

we saw 2 guy in a small aluminium boat there last night.....

Wallyboss- I'm from Sault Ste. Marie, and i've lived in Chapleau and Cochrane.

Wolfe-"seasoned", I would still say "Lucky" but I'm getting braver with my new camera so... hopefully. I would recomend it to anyone.

joco- That wasn't me, unfortunately. But I was out in the morning and it was CRAZY. How was the evening bite?

Carp are a completely different game. The fight is incredible. I love these fish!

I won't give the exact location away, but... It's in the middle of downtown.
All we where using was corn. When I first started I was missing alot of hits. I found the best way to turn a bite into a hooked fish was how the corn was rigged.

Tie the line through the eye of the hook, but leave a trailor of line about 2-3 inches long. Thread the corn through this "tail" instead of on the hook.

Normally when they get spooked they spit the corn. If the corn is on the hook they can spit it out without ever touching the hook. With this tail of corn, when they spit the corn, the whole hook is exposed and easily hooks the fish.

We've got a whole lot more this season using this technique.

that interesting you have developed, on your own, what we call here a "hair rig" ask big bass rich - we sent him one in the post.
the theory is the carp suck the corn up and then get hooked - they do spook easy- thats what makes it interesting, but when they bite......
