We took the kids down to Syracuse this weekend. The girls did a little bit of shopping  and the boys went to see the football game at the Carrier Dome. Good game.. the Wyoming team was a small bunch, but fast, and well coached. Unfortunately, dumb penatlies and a few bobbled balls did them in, loosing 40 -34 in double over time. Good crowd at the "Loud House" , 38,440 in attendance. Bigger than any CFL game I've ever attended.

Any way, on the way back this morning we stopped in Polaski for gas. The place was crawling with vehicles from at least 10 different states and few Ontario and Quebec plates to add to the mix. We did a tour of the town, and drove by the river running through. There were many dozens of folks standing practically shoulder to shoulder in the river, hipwaders, nets and flyrods swinging... I would imagine fists eventually by the looks of the bumping and shoving going on. Stopped at the local bait shop to ask what a non resident license was worth, etc. Inside, there were fellas engaged in verbal handgernades with each other about who had what spot on the shore or river. Almost made the Carrier Dome seem tame.

Not sure if that is what I would call an enjoyable fish :?

I've fished the Salmon River on three occasions now, the fly fishing zones up in Osweco are a little more tame. However last fall when I went there was almost a fight on the river where we were fishing. A 20 something guy hooked into a rather large salmon that took him for a run down the river to land it. He wasn't out of his spot for more than a second before an elderly man jumped into his spot. When the young men got back for landing and releasing his fish the older guy refused to move. It got pretty verbal. But in the end the younger guy should some class and moved on to a different spot. Its a great river to fish. I hooked into about a dozen large salmon there and never landed one yet.

I had an opportunity to speak with a fellow who I went to university with in the States who fishes for Salmon, and he echoed the same. Pretty damned competitive, largely nasty, and rude. I asked him given the length of the season does it calm down. Nope, it gets worse... Jeepers!!

He indicated that since he has come home, and has done some fishing near Oshawa in the spring, the overall situation there is a bit calmer..... but our neighbours from the south have tempered it from time to time....

As I mentioned in my first post, I was not impressed with the crap happening in the bait shop when we stopped in..If that is what folks consider to be acceptable behaviour up here, they can go to you know where. We ran into this behaviour at Charleston Lake a couple of years ago, with some folks who thought they owned the lake. Stay home!

Hey braeside, that was a good su football game. The fresh rb had 4 td's in the game, su on a 3 game winning streak etc. Are you a su fan?

More of a fan back in the 80's and the early-mid 90's. The game was quite good, but have to admit I was impressed with Wyoming, though they had too many goofy penalties. I think they could have beaten 'Cuse, if not for the penalties. My son, who plays competitive football up here in Ottawa, was really impressed with whole experience. We definitely will be going back... its only 3 hours and a little bit, and if its a noonhour game, we can be home for a late supper.
