1000$ Boat - Need advice

Post by OBD »

Hey all

I was thinking of buying a 14ft boat with 18 HP motor (30 years old) and trailer for 1000$. Do you guys think its a good deal or the motor will break soon?

Thanks in advance!

If you have a marine mechanic, get him to check the engine out.

What body type is the boat? aluminum, fibreglass or wood?

Easiest thing to do is check the condition of the trailer, chances are if the trailer has been looked after so has the boat.

Keep in mind with an engine 30 yrs old finding parts for it might be a challenge.

Good luck

what kind of motor is it look it up on google and find out how parts are and how reliable it is... i know between1950 and 1980 they made soime great motors and some crap shoots... i have a 1955 johnson seahorse (10 hp)and i suspect it will be running long after the new motors 2day are... but then again i know a guy that can get me parts for it and will work on it.... jsut be prepared to use more gas/oil.....
