Arnprior Report and a Little More

Hey Everyone,

Just got back home from our Ottawa River trip tonight just after supper. We were supposed to stay until Monday but after not being prepared for "THE SUN" yesterday we all got a little sunburned so we decided to cut our trip short a day early. It was a tough weekend for us because of the size of the river and not really knowing where to start. On Friday we fished hard all afternoon but failed to find any fish. After a long day we packed it in to try again on Saturday. The next day we raised 5 fish during the afternoon but somehow failed to hook any of them. I MISSED 4 of the 5 and was given a pretty hard time from my mates around the dinner table that night. I had to redeem myself after dinner so when we went back out after we ate and I had to prove them wrong!!! About a half an hour in I had my first hit and stuck this 43 incher.

Needless to say I was feeling pretty good about that fish because of the ribbing I took earlier but no more than a dozen casts later my trash talking intensified when I had another hit and got this one. It was small (31 1/2 inches) but probably the prettiest fish I've ever caught.

It was a great weekend and we were treated with perfect weather and a really nice sunset.

I also just wanted to report a fish that I got last Wednesday but was too busy getting ready for the weekend. It's a decent 45 that I caught while fishing with my daughter. She's my good luck charm.

We had the BEST time ever during that trip. Besides the tough fishing, we had a wicked time meeting some other musky anglers from Chicago and having a few giggly pops at the pub. Good times were had by all.

Sean actually stumbled across the pattern that we stuck with for the rest of the evening...casting large jerkbaits over shallow water with current being broken by shoals or points. It seemed to be what was holding the fish to that area and sure enough, he stuck two before daylight ran out on us.

I lost a pike at boatside while screwing around trying to untangle some landing tools and I had a musky tear a chunk out of one of my jerkbaits after it hit it four times! Had a blast and can't wait for our next road trip, wherever it may be.

Here's another look at Sean's fish from my perspective...
