just to inform people to watch out,,,,,,wen you guys order stuff frome the u.s by U.P.S.......... :evil:

i just order stuff frome the states...the coast was 59$us....plus 12,25 us for shiping.......ok for now...............plus 43.14 brokerage due,,, :shock: :evil: ...

jee the shiping and the hight price off brokerage are almost more expensive then my stuff,,,,,, :? :x

whatch out guys,wen order anything frome the .u.s........

mabe its only u.p.s that are like that.....i dont no....?


i no its not fishing.but it is fishing stuff that was order...... :roll:
could be the same for you guys.

Yes...been there, done that...BUT ONLY ONCE...and like you, it was financially painfull!

UPS are the pits...no doubt. If I have to bring something up from the US and the seller insists they use UPS...then I take my business elsewhere.
Big companies in the States like to use them, as they get a really good flat rate on shipping, however, we are the ones (here in Canada) who pay thru the nose when it crosses the border....thats where they make the real money...the so called brokerage fee.

Buyers beware...good reminder for us all. Always check who the shipper will be before placing your order.

I order a ton of stuff from the States.

Never go with a courier, always go with post, only takes a few day usually and I only pay duty about 50% of the time.

Duty is the taxes plus $5.00 servie charge so overall still can be cheaper than buying same thing here...most times.

Yes...USPS is the way to go, providing the item/s are not too long or heavy. Rates are reasonable and you don't always get hit with the duty...seems to depend a lot on the value of the item. Always worthwhile asking the sender to 'mark it down' if possible. 8)

Don't get me started with UPS... Been there, Done that Joco..... I had a smoking deal on a few items... until they arrived,...... just like you.... and to top it all off.... oh... i could loose my head now... so ups comes once and your not home... tag on door... we will come back at this time... (sometimes twice in the same day)... so that is two attempts.... after the third attempt.. they send the package back to sender...... they do not even have a warehouse where they can hold it... so if you are a normal person and work 9-5.... you are screwed because that's the hours they work.... so I end up taking an afternoon off to wait for an item... bonehead brought it in the morning.. left the tag... with a note.. "page me at this number xxx-xxxx to meet somewhere"..... OK wait... so I have to go and meet a courrier service somewhere to get my item.... yes I did... boy did that guy learn some new vocabulary from me... enough said... not sure of that is UPS policy or this lazy son of whatever..... but I actually had to go and meet him in a parking lot somewhere.,...

That's my rant.. USPS from US... nothing else....

IF you are ordering from a person, you could have them send it as a gift, and that will eliminate some of the charges... but still... no UPS..

Whatever happened to NAFTA and free trade agreements? I wouldn't be very happy if duties from the Canadian govt. were imposed on me as well. The postal services are just the messengers ...you know the saying, "don't kill the messenger"! Ordering stuff from the States really makes you do back flips to get your products at a good price and that is extortion in my view! Read your PMs Fatluke and Joco.

So if I order something out of the USA, have it sent to my daughters home in Ohio, she can send it to poor ole dad as a gift without duty :?: :?: :roll:

just wondering if anyone has done it or thought about it

Just about every year someone gets nailed by UPS! We've had the discussion here numerous times.

Always use USPS (United States Postal Service) ground or surface shipping. It's very reliable and relatively quick.

This is especially critical when bidding on places like ebay. Many sellers use UPS. I always confirm before bidding that they'll ship USPS and tell them why. Never have a problem. In the event i did, I wouldn't bid.

they even told me wen i call them today that somtime,,,the brokerage fee can be more expensive then the product itself..... :shock: :x :? ....

Joco I guess you have not read the many posts out here warning people to stay away from UPS. They are the worse and rip people off all the time. Can you imagine they charge $10 to deliver a package some 1000 miles and $50 for some paper work to cross the border. !!!!!!!!!!!!

I would reccomend using USPS and if you get a bill it will be for the taxes and a flat fee of $5 for brokerage charges no mater the value of the package.
Catch and release them all

Yep, like everyone has said, stay well away from the men in the brown trucks - nothing but trouble. :twisted:
USPS is the only shipping method I will accept. I actually do a lot of shopping at BPS online. They always quote me the exact shipping charges, I have never been charged a brokerage fee, and the parcel arrives via Canpar, with no extra charges.
One other thing to look out for is the shipping charges that the actual company will charge you. I ordered some stuff from Northland last year. Total cost of the baits was $22 U.S. They charged me $15 U.S. to ship a box a box half the size of a shoebox! What got me even hotter under the collar, was in plain site on the parcel, the stamp for $3.45! Nice profit there...I had other issues with my dealings, and never received an email or letter after complaining to both the company, and the president himself.
So, it's not only the actual shipping companies you have to look out for, but also the companies themselves. They all want a piece of your money in the end... :?
