Hi Joco
If it was/is a legal fishing method and I wanted to eat some fish, it would be a fun thing to try

What causes the fish to jump...are they being electrocuted??

Why did that video, cause the phrase, "yanno your a redneck when..."
to run through my mind? It does look like fun though.
I guess if it were legal and a fry was planned I'd give it a "shot".

Almonte, I've seen video of the MNR using electricity and the fish react like that but I've also seen video where the fish just seem to do it because they want to. Not sure exactly where this was but it was in the States, I beleive. The guys there wear helmets when cruising around.

I've seen posts about these fish before. I may not be 100 % correct here but I'm pretty sure they are a type of carp from over in asia, i think their nickname is flying carp or something. I think are are invading certain lakes and rivers and have become a bit of a nuisance. I'm sure you can see why. I think people have actually been killed by these fish jumping out of the water like they do. They jump because they are scared of the boat. Now just think of a boat with a 200hp or more on the back going down a river and one of these things hits you in the face. You probably wouldn't be a happy camper if you live through it. I really don't care how people fish for these as long as it's safe. If they are creating problems go for it, and it seems to me that there sure are enough of them. Hope we never get those things up our area.

Jfish, we must have seen the same show because that sounds very familiar. It was carp. Can't imagine a 20lb. carp hitting you in the face while cruising full tilt.

It is legal to bowfish in Ontario for carp and suckers at certain times of the year, spear fish as well even for pike

I beleive Jfish is correct. My brother just sent me a Detroit newspaper article advising these asian carp were released in mid western states and have made their way upstream towards Chigaco and it is now feared they will be able to enter the great lakes. They are apparently very destructive sucking zooplankton out of the water like submarine vacuum cleaners and they have no natural predators. US officials are so concerned about them entering the Great Lakes one electrical carp fence has been constructed, and a second one is being built. They apparently will be more deadly to the Great Lakes fishery than both the goby and zebra mussel combined. I hope they are successful in stopping them, because we do not need any more alien species in our waters.
