size of ice auger??

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hard to imagine an area with holes greater than 10". It is amazing how far a leg can go down a 10" hole.

Just remember who has to carry the big arse auger.

A bigger drill means a bigger, heavier motor to drag around and you will be turning your hole drilling into a 2 man operation for sure.
I don't think there is a rule for the size but the bigger the hole the more danger of someone twisting an ankle or breaking a leg. Lets remember folks, mark your holes.

There might not be any laws against it, but if you drill a hole bigger than 10" make sure that there are no kids around or very skinny guys.

By the way I have no idea why somebody would want a hole bigger than 10". if you can't take it out of a 10"hole, you probably don't have a licence for it either.

Next time you're out onthe ice and you see a 10" hole, try jumping in with 2 feet and see how deep you go. Then think of a 8 year old kid that weighs 45lbs.

It might make you think twice.

I think that there should be a law for a max of 10".

i called the mnr today to find out
they where not sure and will call back with any/all info regarding this

reason i'm asking is because jiffy augers are on sale at c-tire
did not want to buy a 10" if it was illegal

i ended up buying an 8" just to be sure and because of weight

i'll post the mnrs results when they call back

Good question :?:
I think this is where common sence will apply. If you make a 10 inch hole or three or what ever with out causing an unneccessary hazard to yourself or another person or vehicle. Now if you went crazy and drilled alot of holes where it presents a danger say on the known route or a trail out to the fishing area
then even making a lot of smaller holes will present a danger.
Taking a chainsaw and cutting a huge section out of the ice is cause for a negligent and wilful intent to cause possible harm to another.
Remeber that safety is everybodies consern but then there are somepeople that do not care.

Wallyboss, i'll bet the person who caught the shark at the saugney last winter wishes they had a bigger hole

But your right about the little ones going through bigger holes, had one little guy a couple years back drop one leg through, scary for a moment

wallyboss

not sure of weight but my guess would be around 300 lbs
i used white cedar for frame
skies are 2*8 white cedar covered with aluminum(bottom)
aluminum storm door (giveaway stuff)
most of the weight is from the glass which i will remove
when i figure out where i want my permanent windows installed

i will be getting the skin from an above grd pool to cover the outside
when completely done should be maybe 350 lbs at the most
i have an atv to pull it around
