Yep it was great meeting all the guys again, nice meeting Steve for the first time.
Nodie take the plastic of your rod handle , it's going to slip!!!! Cork handles are very easy to clean. Nodie sure showed us old guys how to do it, See guys if we wouldn't be such a bunch of Talkers, we could also keep an eye on our rods at all times and catch some like the young one did. I'm not even sure that Nodie can talk, but we all know that he can hear. He showed today, he took everything we ever said to him and caught some fish. Geez he's a good listener.

Nice mud puppy by the way.

Hi Guys
I really had a great time yesterday. It is sure nice to meet a new group of guys and be so warmly welcomed.
Where we fished is an excellent place for a large group to get together, fish and B.S.
I hope to become a member of the full fledged member of Joco's Cat fishing society in the spring.
Cheers

Ok I don't mean to seem ignorant but I want to know more about these "mud puppies".
I have been fishing for 35 years and have never caught one. I have seen pictures of some bigger ones as well.
What the heck are they? An overgrown Salamander? A walking fish?
What is the real (scientific) name of this critter?
Thanks

mud puppy, common name for North American salamanders of the genus Necturus, found in rivers and streams throughout the E United States and SE Canada. The name derives from an erroneous belief that mud puppies bark. Like its relative, the European olm, the mud puppy exhibits neoteny, i.e., it reaches sexual maturity without losing its larval characteristics. Adults have lungs, characteristic of most adult salamanders, as well as gills, characteristic of larvae. Their short, sturdy limbs develop at an early stage. The mud puppy may reach a length of 12 in. (30 cm); it is reddish brown and black-spotted above and grayish below, with conspicuous bushy red gills at the sides of its head. It walks on river bottoms and feeds primarily on crayfish and aquatic plants. Mud puppies are classified in the phylum Chordata, subphylum Vertebrata, class Amphibia, order Urodela, family Proteidae.
This is what i got when I googled it.

Thanks WB
My hunch was correct then. A Salamander with gills...
I was going to do that but was afraid of what might come up.
