Who woulda thunk it? Fishing with Eye-Tracker on BOQ JAN.7

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Who woulda thunk it? Fishing with Eye-Tracker on BOQ JAN.7

Post by Badger Shark »

Well with the weather being the way it is, Jackel and myself decided to take a trip to the BOQ. We had planned on going with my boat to try out my new toy-Lowrance 334c iGPS gps/finder (colour), but recieved a PM from Eye-Tracker to see if we wanted to join him for the day. I had to think about it for a whole millisecond, of course we would like to join him. It is someithing I would never pass up to join THE MASTER and learn.

We also decided to bring my boat anyway just to get it out afterwards for a chance to see the new finder in action and to say I had the boat out in January.

The weather was nicer than when we were there on Nov.3-4.

We launched at about 8am and headed out, rather quickly I might add, his boat really flies.

We headed out east of the ferry to try our luck first. I had told Jackel he could be first up since the last trip he did'nt get and eye. Sheldon got 3 of the 6 boards in the water and Sheldon calmly says " there ya go, fish on "
we didnt even notice. So Jackel grabs the rod and brings in the board and fights the fish. She gets to the boat and I say " I think you just beat your PB by quite a bit " and in she came, 11.2lbs. One happy Jackel.

Here he is with his first PB of the day

So now it was my turn, it took a while but Sheldon finally says " fish on " and I start bringing her in, near the boat she heads straight down 50ft below the boat and gives a big shake and off she comes.

The one that got away:

Oh well still my turn  So after a while we decide to head west of the ferry into the bay, we search and finally find alot of fish and big fish to boot. After a few minutes, we all see one of the boards take off and Sheldon once again says calmly " there you go fish on ". And instead of taking the rod right away we let it run a bit. So I grab the rod and start bringing her in and right away I can tell this is going to be my new PB just by the way it was pulling even with the board still on. Finally I see her and she is a hog, Sheldon nets her and I can now relax and smile as I was praying the whole time " Please dont come off, Please dont come off"
So now I have a new PB of 11.2lbs, the same as Jackel.

Here is a Happy Badger Shark. My face is quite squished but I dont care.

Sheldon quickly sets up again and in no time one board goes so we tell him its his fish to catch, then another board goes, its Jackels turn again and then the third board gets a hit but sadly not hooked. Anyway they are both fighting fish and I am standing waiting with the net. Jackel is saying " this is a big fish " and he was right. Sheldon got his to the boat first and I netted it, took a quick pic and released. Now Jackel still fighting this monster, he gets her in and we quickly see that he now had a new PB A Pig weighing in at 13.1lbs

Anyway after fishing for a little while longer we decided to head in because I wanted to get my boat out for a bit, Sheldon was bringing in the boards and says hey theres a fish on this one.

And he pulls in this monster......

We had a good laugh with ending the day with basically dinner for another fish.

Anyway we got out on my boat for a bit and had a little more fishing and the finder is sweet. Didnt get any more but hey what a day.

Who could ask for anything better then fishing in the Bay of Quinte on January 7 and getting three new PB to cap it off.

Once again thank you Sheldon for giving us the privilage of joining you and teaching us a heck of alot about walleye fisihing, you truly are the master. And a very down to earth guy who obviously enjoys taking people out and putting smiles on thier faces when they get that first fish.

You are the best charter person out there in my opinion so if anyone wants to get out and learn I highly recommend taking the time to get out with Sheldon if you can, you will not be disappointed. :o

Man January 07, what the heck is going on? I dont know but I aint complaining.

I'm sure what you learned in a day from eye-tracker on the Bay of Quinte will provide you with info you can use for the upcoming soft water season ! The way the weather is going ,it may sooner than we think ! Congrats Badger Shark,Jackel and Eye-Tracker

Badger and Jackle,
Was great being out in the boat with you and showing you some of the open water techniques that work for suspended walleye. I am sure your new sonar unit will help you detect the fish coming up to feed at certain depths  .

I also had to watch Jackle closely at the end of the day to make sure he did not sneak off with a few of my loomis trolling rods

Glad you had a good day and it was awesome to be out in January fishing open water.

Congrats to Sheldon and crew for another fine day at Quinte....she's been a banner year and this extended warm stretch has many folks taking advantage of it!

I do have to ask... ...How is that Sheldon who weighs about 130 on a good day is in a light spring coat and the two big fellas are dressed like they are headed to the Arctic?...

Good Fishin'

They kept asking me if I was cold...

Here is a sonar recording from my Lowrance unit to give people an idea of how many fish are suspended and feeding on scattered bait fish in the top 20 feet of the water column. One walleye came off a deep diving crank only 25 feet behind the in-line board.
