With all the cold in Ottawa and area lately Muskiestalker and some MCI members and I went for some rainbow action near Ottawa .
As usual an early bite was expected so I was up at 3:45 am to drive out and rendezvous with the guys!!
After a quick 5 am breaky , we were off to the lake , and it was pitch black on arrival
After setting up we settled in to hopefully catch some fish.
I wasn't long before I put the first on on the ice
Several more were to follow
What beautiful fish
We bumped into some other guys I know who just happened to be there catching fish as well
This area is beautiful
After the bite slowed down we packed up and headed to another rainbow lake not to far away to see if the action was on there
Playing around with the under water camera was pretty cool , checking the bottom and our hooks
Kert checking his line
Although we had lots of hits we only produced one fish
Kert cooked us a shore lunch from the heavens 4 raibows and potatoes and onions, excellent mid day meal
Didn't need the huts much today but it was nice to sit down for a few minuite here and there
We iced 5 ,missed about another dozen
What a fantastic day
Matt

The ice was nice and hard and anywhere from 5" - 8 " thick.
No worries about going through, but we had the survival suits on anyways.
After 10" they will come off LOL

Nice trout fella's..
Thanks for the invite.... Hopefully I can make it next time..
I discovered something today about our trip from last weekend..
As it appears I did some damage to my truck when I backed into the water to break the ice at the first boat launch we went to. I guess the ice was too thick as it dented, and punctured a small hole in my rear differential.
I had planned a day off work tomorrow for fishing, but it looks like I will be replacing the cover on the rear diff and hoping there is no damage to the gears or bearings inside. Should be a great day doing that work outside in the snow.
I hope there's no damage damage to the innards....
The shore lunch sounded great... I'll bring venison next time I come again, it tastes even better on the ice than it does on the couch..

Really, that sucks Luke...I'm surprised...you didn't ram the ice
Hopefully there is no other damage

Ya Matt it sure does suck...
I think as my tires broke the ice, it heaved up in the middle, and was just applying constant pressure as I backed in... The ice was a good 3 inches I would say, so I can see how it could have stacked and heaved up to cause the dent.. I don't imagine the case is very thick on the diff.
Luckily it was at the top of the diff cover, so the gear oil was only leaking out when the vehicle was being driven, and it did not totally leak out....I noticed a weird sound yesterday afternoon and then I discovered where it was coming from.. Then it only took me 2 hours to get a tow truck and have it towed home...
Anyway I'll know this afternoon when I pull the cover off..

I did not know you musky guys could catch anything under 10lbs and 36"...I am so excited to go try my X lake out in two weeks for speckles and splake...May even fish my lake for some bows and lakers
....Enough of the X lakes...it is Granite Lake and it is up in Ompah...there said it and proud to say where I fish...I don't hide anything from people cause we cannot keep fishing popular if we dont let people fish "our" spots...
Again guys nice bows and I am frothing at the mouth wanting to catch my own...I will not even attempt to ask where you caught them due to other current posts...lol so funny us fishermen...We take this way to serious some times.
