Looking for some Florida Information

Hey all,
I've just confirmed that I'll be heading down to Orlando in April, staying at a resort on Lake Davenport. Naturally, I'm gonna do some fishing. Anyone know of a good place to rent a boat in that area on a body of water close to Lake Davenport, if not that Lake itself. I've searched the net and cannot believe I cannot find somewhere.
Now it would be nice to be able to rent a "real" boat, not just a 12 foot jonny with 9.9. I'm looking for something a little more fishable if you know what I mean, but worst case, I'll go out in a bathtub if I have to.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,

You're right Bobber, there is not allot of info on Lake Davenport.

From what I can see on the web it is a small lake of about 400 acres and its actual name may be Bass Lake. Looking at fishing in the area it would appear that your best bet in the Orlando vicinity would be Lake Toho (Tohopekaliga). It is about 18,000 acres and considered one of Florida's top bass lakes. I think it is quite close to where you are going. I will e-mail you some additional info and the name of a marina on Lake Toho that advertises rental boats. Hope this helps

Hi Bobber,
There is a great book called Fishing Florida which gives you a pile of information on the regions, marinas, rentals, etc.. I lent the book to a friend last year and have yet to get it back. Once received, I will look up the information you requested.
Sincerely,
James

Bobber...
Check out the
www.floridasportsman.com forum. Lots of good info there and a great community. You should be able to find someone local to put you in the right direction or get you out for a trip

Hey Bobber,i was fishing Toho on New Years day.I booked a trip with Steve Boyd but never fished with him because he was already booked so he set me up with another guy he uses when he gets double booked and i tell you he was a great guy.The weather was raining on and off and calling for thunderstorms so it was kind of crappy at times for us.We used shiners and balloons all day since i had my 7 year old with me it was easier than him casting and putting a hook in my back lol.Shoot me an email and i can tell you where to get a boat and send you some pictures,i also have a map of the lake and can show you where the guide took me so you can save some time

Thanks Bruce, I've sent you an e-mail.
I can't believe how much of a difficult time I'm having to find a place that will rent a boat for a day near the Kissimee area.
Anyone here in that area who can help me out.
Cheers,

I saw a show years ago about Lake Okiechobee(spelling???), and I said to myself If I ever go to Florida that will be on my To Do List. Get a guide for a day of fishing on that lake. I saw that trick with the balloons as floaters, it was wild they were pulling in 9-10 lbs Bass.

Hey,
Looked it up and there is nothing on Lake Davenport. Try calling 1800284BIG-O for more info and they might be able to help you by redirecting your call. The number is for Lake Okeechobee Guides Association.

Thanks folks,
I've found 2 place that rent boats so far. One on East Lake Fish Camp (Lake Toho) and one on Kissimee (Camp Mac). The East Lake Fish camp is where I rented before when I went down with Marcus. It's OK, but only a 15' fibreglass johnny boat with 9.9 on the back. The other place has 1 bass boat for rent, but is apparently not working right now. They said it would be good to go by the time I get there, however....... The Lake is about 1 hour away from Orlando. It's a possibility but I'm not convinced on the boat.
I've signed up for a few sites down there and asked the questions, but the response I'm getting is not really helping unfortunately. I've even sent PMs to a few to ask if they'd be willing to rent me their boats.

I don't think it would happen, but thought I'd ask anyway.
I'm still digging.

couple years ago I went to Orlando to visit my uncle there and we drove to east coast (Coco beach) and went deep sea fishing for the whole day.. you bring your own booze, breakfast served on the boat, takes ~1hr to get to the fishing spot.. and captain blows his horn so everyone drops there line and start fishing.. he changed spots couple times during the day.. catched all kinds, from baracuda to red snappers....
this boat we went on was a real big one, maybe 15 people were on it.. there are also smaller ones, like for 4 people (private charters), you can book the boat to yourself if you want.. but more pricy!!
would highly recommend it!!!

Hey thanks. I actually thought of doing something like that, but the Bass fisherman in me keep pulling me away from the big water charter and pushing me more towards spending the day with my brother and father, hunting the trophy bass you can pick up in Florida. I'm still looking. Now I'm trying to find someone who will rent me their personal boats for a day. Doesn't hurt to ask I suppose.
