Constance Lake Report - Feb 4, 2007

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Constance Lake Report - Feb 4, 2007

Post by 'Bass'aria »

First time I am writing a report so please bear with me...

Dave (Bobbers bro), Kam, and I fished Constance Lake this past Sunday. First time out on the ice this year (we are the cautious type!). Rented a hut from Chuck and Sylvie (attempt to keep warm a bit considering it was -30 with the wind!). We got on to about 30 perch most too small to consider for a meal, 2 pike (also small but exciting nevertheless) and missed atleast 5 pike with ffrozen tipups (as well as slow tipup reaction time on our parts - it was cold, give us a break :hs

As a ice fishing rookie (been out half a dozen times or so), several curiousities arouse whilst freezin our buts off! I assume that fish under the ice move around quite a bit, hence the amazing action for 10 minutes and then nothing for 2 hrs. Also, are they simply hitting out of biological desire or do they conventionally feed in the winter? How does one set up a tipup to set the hook on its own? In many cases, by the time we got to the tip up we had lost the pike. It may also have to do with the jig head and minnow setup we had going. Either way, I think it needs to be improved on our end!

Summary - success all around, several beers drank, laughs had, and lots of fresh (cold) air soaked in. Will definately do it again!
