Bruin everybody that fishes Petrie knows not to go up the channel where the culverts are. It was a first timers (possibly a last timer) mistake.

Is the terminology "numbnuts" acceptable?

If no,t I appologetically retract it and replace it with "more cashews than brains,"

I've never fished Petrie myself, but I can see it's quite a popular spot. Is the area that this kid went in marked off by anything? Yellow tape, or a sign warning people of culverts and possibly thin ice? If there is great, but if there isn't, why not? Alot of people fish there; don't you think it would make sense to warn people who are not familiar with the area?

Kid's lucky to be here. Very lucky. Probably the scariest thing he'll ever experience and I have a feeling he won't be taking any more ice fishing invitations.

Do you think RAV/ 4's are good fish holding sttructure? I guess that depends if it was "fully loadad"

Well, I for one will not ever drive on the ice, I dont care how thick it is because at the end of the day, I am quite confident that insurance will NOT cover you if you go through the ice. I cant afford replacing my vehicle. Dont get me wrong, I'd love to drive up to wherever I'm fishing but, I'm always paranoid of breaking through.

It comes down to " If you don't know the waters, follow somebody who knows or leave the vehicle on shore."

I am glad that he got out, it could've been a lot worse.

As for insurance if you have a comprehensive policy it will cover your vehicle going thru the ice and all the extra charges of removing it. I am very shocked that they are gonna keep it in the water. Most MNR require you to get it out ASAP.

Looks like I have myself a new $35K dock anchor. I would like to have them take it out asap as well but apparently they are going to wait until spring to lift it with balloons and bring it closer to shore before they pull it out. As the car is on the other side of the docks, they can't pull it out, it is too far to crane it out, thus so far, what we hear, is spring time removal..... any fluids which were going to escape have done so by now...

Just very happy he got out...

I know if I went through the ice I would lose all my fluids right away too!

I want them to pull it out so that they can verify his story. If he was going to ice fish, I would think he would have the proper gear inside.

Seems kind of "fishy" that an 18 year old, Friday night is ice fishing at 1:00 am.

Am I wrong to think that?
