Planning on heading up to fish the ganny and a couple back streams....anyone know how the stealhead fishing has been?

If you are talking about the April run...it has been terrible the past 5 years.

When do they start to run? And where exactly is the Ganny River? I know April and Port Hope, Looking for more information.

Your fishing the wrong waters.
Last year openner,Sat.,I stayed in a 50' area and landed 6 averaging 7+lbs from 6:30am-1:00pm
Year prior a group of us landed 30+ steel in the openning weekend.
Prior to that a few more
Do some traveling,learn the waters
Don't go by what people say,Steel is an Adventure,No Looky,No Findy

Now that may be my problem...We always go the Sunday-Wed to avoid the mad rush of fishermen on the Saturday. We stay at the hotel off the highway and fish about 6-7 different streams and rivers and usually walk about 4-5 miles down each. Caught one last year about 5lbs and 2 about 3 years ago. Has anyone else found that they are running sooner or later than usual or is it just us arriving on the Sunday. I remember when I was 17 fishing the streams and having trouble not catching any. Was on a bank looking into a pool by a downed tree when the bank gave way and in I went. I thought my father was going to have a stroke he was laughing so hard. He told me a few years earlier on the same bank his buddy did the same thing and a bunch of anglers gave him 9.8's on the dismount.

I always found I did better casting out off the stream mouths into Lake O for trout. The season is open year round for them in the main lake and in certain parts of several creeks and rivers but you have to read the regs. The trout really fight good in the lake and you usually always land them but you will usually need a buddy to help netting them.

Fishing the creeks for those fish is like riding a bull in the rodeo... you are never fast enough to head off which way they will go next and wind up losing the game.

You need to build a rod holder that you stick in the sand to keep your line up and out of the waves to avoid it being dragged in constantly..... enjoy.... take a lawnchair and soak up the rays.

Well were heading out on friday to Port Hope in search of a steel head or two.

This is our first time going and we are planning on fishing from shore where the river and the lake meet, along up to the cnr bridge. Never been there before, or fished steelhead for that matter.

I called the chamber of commerce down there, and the lady told me the water had been open for a while. After further searching on the net I was able to locate lots of info. Let your fingers do the walking.

Grover, would sure like to see a report here on fish-hawk upon your return. I'm dying to get up there to try for some steelies. Got a float rod last year.

Tried one creek up that way but no luck. Just saw some Chinni's that I may have hooked if it wasn't for the butthead who came trudging along the shoreline and scared them all off.

Well lads and ladies, here is the report that some of you requested, went to Port Hope in search of the steels. Left the house at 4:30am, got to Hope at 7:30-8:00am . Got the rods out of the truck and started with a baitcaster and a sac of eggs (orange) was the choice colour. We chatted with lots of folks while we were there, the response was the same with every one, no steels or trout to be caught. Some of them kept saying about the water conditions, the water was so muddy looking that you could not see 2 inches from the top of the water down into it. Needless to say the day was a bust no one was catching and that included us! But in 2 weeks when we return to hunt the illusive steels. We will keep you informed, as well as anyone else who goes please let us know how your trip to Port Hope went. So from Lake Dore this is Ladyfish signing off.
