I started fishing this river late last year and have had success for pike. I'm planning on fishing it a lot more in the coming months, and I'm curious what else is in there...?

I've heard everything from "nuthing in there" to "10lb walleye"...so I don't really know what to think. I always considered it to essentially be a big creek, but apparently it's quite deep in some spots?
Anyone have more experience with this river they are willing to share?

I haven't fished it for over 20yrs now but...I have caught Muskie in the Jock along with Bass, sucker and Carp!!

I have caught walleye in several sections of the jock and even fallfish in one section. It really depends where you fish. The dead water areas around RIchomond are different than the ones below the dam. Its a fun river in places, hard to belive your so close to ottawa soemtimes when you round a bend with just bush around you.

i will be fishing the jock a cople off time this year in the kayak....

perfect for it.

there is all species in there frome walleye to musky.

just have to no where to go and wen.

its a nice little river.

there is a cople guy here that do fish it.

but its an X river.

actualy i think there is NO fish there at all.

Actually the Rideau valley conservation authority considers it the biggest tributary of the Rideau. It used to be stocked with bass and Walleye up until the 70's.

Big spring walleye run.

Bass, pike and musky year round.

Great for kids with lotsa sunfish and rock bass, with many parks offering easy access.

My favourite is to wade the rock gardens and pools on the west side of Richmond (just barely up stream of the village and wade your way down until it gets too deep -around Fowler street), but I grew up there so I'm biased. small spinners, plugs and topwaters. Crayfish imitations during the molt are deadly(August).

There is a boat launch just upstream of the Richmond Centennial Golf course. From there you can go downstream a little ways, and upstream a great distance into the fen, but eventually you find a beaver dam.

A dry year can see it get quite stagnant and murky, esp if the runoff from the farms is proportionately heavy.

I caught my first fish on the Jock when I was 7. It was a 5 lb Wallye- I caught at the McBean st bridge. I was so afraid of it I had to flag down a car for help.

I was fishing with hip waders - and caught... and 8lb walleye.. and then nailed a 8 lb muskie withing... 10 minutes of each other..

its my favorite place to go..

I agree with Bowzog...waste of time...no fish in there at all!!!!!!!!!!!

me thinks that Bowzog is kidding you

I spent several years living out there when I was a kid. Used to fish the Jock in the 70s all the time and there is everyting in there. Fun to fish in the spring, someone mentioned a big spring walter run which is definitely true.

Just thinking of my childhood, I remember one time my mother dropped my brother and a friend and I off around the Fallowfield bridge when she was on her way into Bells Corners to shop. So we work our way over to the east side of the river and it had clearly overflowed its banks and then receded. There were all these huge carp in about a 1 acre overflow pond in hte middle of a farmer's field, maybe 1 foot of water. The three of us chased those damn carp around like a bunch of fools for two hours, wet to the waist when we were done. that was a funny day, I'll always remember it
