Hi Everyone

Well I started my 2007 year with an excellent outing. I went out with a
good friend Trevor and his brother, Dad and nephew.

It started off with us discovering that we would be walking in a long way because the road was washed out.



Although our walk- in was close to 90 minutes it was made much easier by Trevor’s new canoe caddy. These things work very well!!!!



After battling with the canoe through some thick woods for the last kilometer, we finally arrive at the lake.



It does not take much time to start catching fish. Trevor catches a nice Quebec Red Trout on a spinner and worm.



Not much later I get one



you can see we had some problems with the seat in the canoe.

It was kind of cold, so we took a break and warmed up.



We ended up catching quite a few fish. It was a mixed bag of Reds, a couple of Browns and an unknown type of trout.



Here is the picture of the unknown trout. I am very sure it is not a rainbow, could it be a landlocked salmon?



I hope the rest of 2007 goes as well as this trip!!!!

Nice catch!!!

I'm going on my second trout hunt of the season next weekend....We'll be loadind up the ATV's, boats and trailers...can hardly wait!!! Hopefully I'll be able to post some pics!

I love all the fog in the pictures. Never heard of a red trout before...is it a distinct species or a subspecies??

i think quebec red trout is actually artic char. maybe somebody could confirm this.

Speckled Trout is commonly refered to as "red" trout in Quebec. People will actually tell you there are 2 distinct species when in fact there aren't. Arctic Char is much different than this fish. Folks in the Outaouais hills have always used that name and just stick with it.... A little like people around here going fishing for pickerel... It's WALLEYE! Hey let's get another thread going on that!

Oh, and steve, that bottom trout reallllly looks like a rainbow. Landlocked trout is actually salmon, it doesn't look like trout. Sometimes though you could hook into a splake that looks like a speckled but also looks like a laker...

What an adventure I love these type of reports Weather looked a bit gloomy but the fish were biting. Must be nice..

I have to disagree with ya misterminnow.....Quebec Reds are from the Char family and are different from the Speckled/Brook trout.
The Arctic char, Salvelinus alpinus, is present in North America in both the anadromous (seagoing) and the nonanadromous (freshwater resident) forms. Local names include sea-run, ilkalupik, martson trout, Quebec red trout, and blueback trout.
