Taking advantage of the high water

Hey guys,

I've been lucky enough to get out a few times over the last couple days chasing Mr. Pike. While during the last couple weeks most of the bigger northerns have been showing up in 5-8 feet of water, the weather we've been having has really changed their habits and they were getting a little harder to find.

The water in the Ottawa has definately been rising and this weekend it was up almost two feet above where it's been for the last two weeks. With the high water level I've been working newly flooded flats, getting lots of little hammerhandles and while I'd moved a few big girls over the last couple outings I hadn't connected with one. Until today...

I got out for a few hours this morning, got a few little guys quick and the watched this big girl slurp up my unweighted superfluke. At 33" She's the biggest I've gotten on the Ottawa this year.

Now...just a few more days before the Ottawa muskie opener. Then some really big teeth.

Best fishes,

Matt

Awesome pike man! It was nice seeing you at the ramp! Man you have a nice boat  I'm glad you found them, we had difficulty finding them! Tried all kind of different baits from spinnerbait to jerkbait, but no takers. After we talked, we headed back to our spot for a while since the wind had died down and the boat traffic was better. Same spot than last time, I only managed to get a follow up muskie who hit the spinnerbait at the boat but lost him after 10-15 sec of battle. I can't wait till opener to get my first one!

Congrats on the beautie! :D

Man nice fish for sure. I agree the high water has really got them on the feedbag. I nailed a bunch on Sunday in shallow bays as well.
