Appleton report

Firefox and I headed up to Appleton for a quick evening fish last night.
We launched without issue, and even remembered to put the plug in this time. We motored up to our target location.
We were going after Smallies today, and if that didn't work out, Matt knew of a few good spots for Largies.
Well, the weeds were up high, and we tried to fish weed flats next to deeper water since it worked well the other day. I had managed to lose my two favorite baits on the last outing, and thought I would give Senkos a turn today.
We managed 4 smallies in the first 2 hours out there, and figured we might have a decent evening.
We flipped docks for a bit, but no one was home and those who were, must have been small perch of sunfish, because they stole our plastics like they were going out of style.
Things quieted down, and we moved from spot to spot trying to locate the fish. I cast a senko next to some lily pads, and started my countdown, but wait, the line moved, and its still moving. I set the hook, and immediately feel some weight. I'm excited, and I feel back, and anounce I have one. There's about 20 feet of thick weeds between me and this fish, and the fish knows it. He bulldogged for a bit, and finally came to the boat.
I was rewarded with a thick Largie, 16".
By the way, I'm 6'2, 320lbs, so most fish look pretty small around me.
Back in the water he goes for next year.
We try a favorite spot of Matt's, and he hooks into a nice Smallie. 15" on the nose if I remember right:
We were hot for a bit, and we had around 10 fish each. Things started to die down, and we tried spot, after spot, but had little to show for it.
Matt hooked into a nice bucket that had awesome coloring and it gave double the fight it should have:
We moved on and tried a new spot. I was still throwing senkos, and I was running out. Too many sunfish. We tried a bed next to 17 feet of water. The lili pads had to be sitting in 10 feet of water, and some bass were hiding in the shadows. Matt nailed a few, and I managed to most pathetic sunfish you'd ever find. It might have been 2 inches long, it had a 6 inch senko in its mouth, and it came from 17 feet deep while I was bottom bouncing. Wierd.
A bit later, I threw my senko next to a downed tree, and wham....another good fish. As I was fighting it back to the boat, WHAM....doubleheader...Matt nails its little sister...
17" for mine and 16" for his. Both were thick fish. Matt nailed another 14" and a 12" from the same spot before we moved on. We'll be revisiting that spot later in the year
We finished up by the launch fishing the dam, and we both managed 2 respectible golden brown smallies before we left.
All in all, a great time out. A bit warm when the breeze died down, but the fish co-operated. I think we ended up with another 28 fish between us in 5 hours.
